Hotel V Nesplein / Amsterdam / The Netherlands

Out of all the cities in the world, the Amsterdam hotel scene is by far the one that I have explored the most. Why? When Covid 19 lockdowns prevented us from traveling we decided to do what we could to support the local hospitality industry and we also saw it as a way to get out of the house.

In Amsterdam there is a small chain simply called V. They have three hotels in three totally different parts of town. I have written about them before when I did my RG’s Top 3 Dutch Hotel Chains and you can also read about my stay at sister hotel V Fizeaustraat here.

This V Hotel is located on Nesplein in the centre of town, a stones throw from the Dam. Many city hotels struggle and still sometime end up being too stale and somewhat impersonal, but not this one. The first thing that hits you when you enter V Hotel is a warm, welcoming feeling. It is not only due to the color scheme of the interior but even more so thanks to the people that work here. They are treating the hotel and the guests like it is their own hotel and they really go beyond to make sure we enjoy our stay.

All in all there are 43 rooms so it is fairly small for a city hotel and this small hotel, familiar feeling is extra great when staying in a big city. It becomes a considerate haven to return to after walking around in Amsterdam..

I have to mention the design of our room, because I think it was so beautiful and unique. The walls had structured wallpaper in a rich, golden yellow except for the wall behind the bed which was made out of golden brown wood. Combined with a dark wood floor and furniture it was pure magic.

V Hotel Nesplein is located on a small backstreet in the center of Amsterdam.

The old post office of Ghent is an impressive building in all of its Neo Gothical glory. A perfect canvas to start with when creating a hotel concept that resulted in 1898 The Post Hotel.

Me checking in.

We entered through the back door and were totally in awe of this beautiful staircase leading us up to the reception.

This magnificent chandelier is the first thing you see when you enter the hotel. Such an impressive statement piece.

The corridors have a warm and welcoming feeling. Classy and classic.

Just look at this wall paper. It is divine!

Our room had a mezzanine that provided a great birds-eye view of our room with the massive windows and dark green walls.

You know I love staircases. I am always so curious to see what hotels do with their stairs and if they include them in the design scheme. That was for sure the case at V Hotel.

The cosy library part of the bar/restaurant. Perfect little corner for some relaxation after a long day walking around town taking in the sights.

Such a beautiful building that the hotel is situated in. So very Dutch!

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…come to Amsterdam and want to stay central and near the action but not where the party is on 24/7. Even though this hotel is super central it is on a back street and therefore very calm.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the restaurant. It is called the Lobby and it is such a cosy affair. One corner of the restaurant looks like a mini library with an open fire place and all. Perfect for a drink after a full day exploring the city. Oh, and the food is really good too!

What not to miss when staying here is…

…to not do something. Wait! Wasn’t that a double negative!? Yes, it was! This hotel is located close to the infamous Red Light District and I personally don’t like that this has become a tourist attraction (just for clarity: I don’t like it, period!) where people go to look at people having to sell their bodies in a neon lit booth so I think people should miss to go there and explore other parts of town if you are sightseeing.
