Warm, circularity-focused agroturismo in the hills of north Ibiza
Finca Can Marti / San Juan Bautista / Ibiza / Spain
I know that I love the word unique and I know that sometimes I might overuse it you will just have to trust me when I say that this place is the real deal. It is truly unique. And in so many different ways.
Finca Can Marti is located in the north of Ibiza where it is more calm and the landscape is more mountainous. If the party crowd usually stay in the southern part this is where the people who look for relaxation and a more alternative vibe come to hang out, and Can Marti offers both these things.
This resort was started by two Swiss, Isabelle and Peter Brantschen, who moved here in 1994 with an ambition to create a place that is truly ecological with a clear focus on sustainability, organic agriculture and eco-lifestyle. For example, they collect all the wastewater and filter it through a plant based system to re-use it to water the plants. All the energy comes from solar power and all the waste is separated and recycled when possible.
And the things is, this is not only a sustainability haven but the design is totally on point. All the material used are so tactile that I just wanted to walk around and touch walls, furniture and ornaments, You stay in small houses and some of them even have a kitchenette, perfect if you want to prepare your own food. And if you do, you do not even have to leave the Finca. There is a small grocery store on site with local produce and organic foods.
RG inside info
This place is perfect if you…
…come to Ibiza and you want to have an experience out of the ordinary. If you want to get away from the crowds and relax. If you are a person that want to make sustainable choices also (or especially) when on vacation - this is your place!
My favorite thing about this place…
…is the pool. It is like nothing I have ever seen before. I have never shared a pool with frogs before. It is a 100% natural freshwater pool, totally free of chemicals. And it is embedded in greenery so it really feels like a swimming in a lake and not in a pool. And a couple of days/week they open their small chiringuito, pool bar where they offer some light food and fresh drinks.
The quality booster…
…is a hotel that is truly sustainable and circular. No green washing here but the real deal. So inspiring to see that it is possible if you put your mind to it and I hope a guiding star to other hoteliers out there.
What not to miss when staying here is…
…to go to the nearby beach of Cala d’en Serra. It is located a short car ride from the hotel and is so beautiful (see photo above). We always wake up early and went here directly after breakfast and had the bay to ourselves before other people started to drop in. Crystal clear water, dramatic cliffs and a cute, little chiringuito.
