Max Brown Ku’damm / Berlin / Germany

The first Max Brown hotel opened in Amsterdam in 2014 with a vision to create hotels that help people get the most out of every day. After the first successful opening there is now a collection of five locally inspired hotels in four different cities in Central Europe (Vienna, Düsseldorf, Amsterdam and Berlin). The Max Brown collection is part of Sircle Hotels which also includes Sir Hotels and Park Centraal Hotels.

This Max Brown hotel is located in Kurfürstendamm (or Ku’damm as the locals say) in the western part of the German capital, on the border between Charlottenburg and the Wilmersdorf District. I am a big fan of hotels located in residential areas. It usually leads to a more relaxed feeling and it is so great to get to see how the locals live, far from the area/s where most of us out-of-towners usually stay.

I read on the Max Brown web page that what they want to do is to offer the basics at their very best: perfect coffee, heavenly beds and culturally vibrant locations. I can happily confirm they ace all three of these goals. The in-house coffee bar serves great flat whites, the bed in our room made us come back mid-day for some R&R before venturing out again. Remember this is Berlin so to “waste” time with going back to the room has to be a testament to just how comfy that bed was. Ok, it also helped that we came in December and that it was freezing out…

What I particularly liked about this hotel is the playful design. It feels like a hotel that doesn’t take itself too seriously. We stayed here with my parents during a city break and we all really liked how welcomed we all felt and how we felt that we really fitted in. After this stay I have managed to stay at two of the other Max Brown hotels (Amsterdam Canal District and Düsseldorf) but that you will get to read about in another post.

This retro-looking reception is so great! I also like that it is a combined reception and hotel shop.

Always take the stairs. Always! Both for health reasons and since the stairs say a lot about a hotels holistic design idea. If there is one.

Love myself some neon lights.

The corridors are all dressed in this statement wall paper and vintage looking lamps.

Love this historic nod with a vintage phone, marble bed side table, old fashioned lamp switches and printed wall paper.

How great are these room number signs?! Instead of boring signs, why not have a small pot with a cactus?

If you rise with the early birds, like us, you can have the place all to yourself.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…are looking to stay in an area of Berlin that is a little off the beaten track. Like in most large cities us tourists tend to end up in the same area/s but if you want to stay at a hotel beyond that, this could be your place. But don’t worry, the Ku’damm district is just a couple of blocks away with shopping, restaurants and bars ready to welcome you.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the in-house restaurant Benedict. Not only because they bake their own bread but because it is open 24/7. So no matter when you get a craving they are ready to whip something up for you.

What not to miss when staying here…

…where to start…? This is Berlin where options are endless… Ok, I think I will go for a classic, the food department at KaDeWe. Go there with an empty stomach and make sure you end your round with a stop at the champagne bar.
