Dark design hotel in small town Ängelholm with big city vibe

Hus 57 Hotel / Ängelholm / Sweden

In southwest Sweden there is a small seaside town called Ängelholm. This is where you’ll find this place, Hus 57. Ängelholm is situated between two beautiful peninsulas, the Bjäre- and Kulla peninsula, dotted with cute villages and some great hiking trails.

This is one of those hotels that has an urban vibe, like it should be located in a big city somewhere. I love when these local entrepreneurs dare to go bold and create something that stands out.

The design concept is created by Spik Studios. They have also created the design for some of my other favorites like Vault Hotel and MJ:s. So what is the concept all about? They wanted to create a warm, modern townhouse. A place where people can meet and enjoy music and great food.. And like always when they are designing something, I really think they have created a hit.

In the lobby area there is a lot of space to hang out by the fire place or just relax in one of the sofas. There is also a gym and a wellness area so this is a great hotel for a calm, small town weekend.

The old post office of Ghent is an impressive building in all of its Neo Gothical glory. A perfect canvas to start with when creating a hotel concept that resulted in 1898 The Post Hotel.

Why not mount a vintage Crescent bike on the wall?

We entered through the back door and were totally in awe of this beautiful staircase leading us up to the reception.

The lobby area is so dark and sombre with plenty of areas where you can find some privacy and relax with a book and a glass of wine.

The corridors have a warm and welcoming feeling. Classy and classic.

Our room, like the rest of the hotel, has a dark look. Perfect for an Autumn weekend away.

Our room had a mezzanine that provided a great birds-eye view of our room with the massive windows and dark green walls.

There is a lot of fun, quirky design around the hotel. Like this lamp.

This is one of the best mini-bars I have ever seen.

There is a small hotel shop with some fun things to bring back home, like these salt and pepper animals.

I do love myself a honesty bar. It is great when hotels trust their guests enough to offer something like this.

If you go to Systrarna på Skäret, a short trip from the hotel you have to have their classic shrimp sandwich.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…want to go away on a weekend but you appreciate a smaller, calmer context instead of the hectic big city but you still want to stay at a hotel with a design idea.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the dark color palette. It created such a cosy atmosphere and is a great contrast to all the Scandic-chic design that is otherwise so common in this part of the world.

What not to miss when staying here is…

…to explore the two peninsulas surrounding Ängelholm. There are great places to stop for something to eat. I especially like Systrarna på Skäret. Their baked goods is to die for.
