Great urban hotel with a smalltown feel in Danish capital
Hotel Danmark / Copenhagen / Denmark
In Denmark there is a small hotel chain that is making a mark on the local scene. This chain is called Brøchner Hotels. They are currently running 4 hotels in Copenhagen and are about to open their first hotel, no actually it is a design hostel, in Denmark’s second city, Aarhus. Their hotels are totally different when looking at architechture and design, but one thing connects them and that is that they all stand out in their own special way.
We had the chance to stay at Hotel Danmark, right in the center of the Danish capital. The hotel is situated in two totally different buildings that are joined together. One of them dates back to the 18th century and the other ”only” to 1969. This newer building is such a statement in the cityscape being covered in green tiles.
The interior feels warm. Warm, dark and welcoming. When you enter the hotel you step right into the reception/lobby/bar/shop area. This is something I really like, a hotel that has some kind of buzz. Where other guests (or locals, for that matter) hang around with a glass of wine, just relaxing.
Two of the things that stands out at this hotel is the corridors and the roof top bar. I’ve read that the design of the corridors are inspired by famous Danish-Icelandic artist Bertel Thorvaldsen and they really frame the whole design of the hotel in a great way. And what is not to love about an outdoor roof top bar with excellent views over the Copenhagen rooftops. A perfect place for a post-city-exploration by bike.

This place is perfect if you…
…want to go for a city break in the Danish capital and you want to stay at a hotel that makes a design statement but still manages to feel relaxed and warm. The location couldn’t be more central with everything you need around the corner.
My favorite thing about this place…
…this might sound a bit strange but I love hotels that focus on the corridors. So many times corridors and stairs are overlooked and all the focus goes into creating the design of the rooms but I love when you have a holistic view as a hotelier/designer in creating your hotel. This is something I think they have succeeded with here.
What not to miss when staying here…
…is to bike! Copenhagen is made for riding a bike. Yes, the Danes can be pretty fierce when zooming around, but it is still worth it. There is so much to see and explore in and around the centre of Copenhagen that is easily reached by bike.
