Cosy maritime themed boutique hotel in Amsterdam’s canal district
Max Brown Canal District / Amsterdam / Netherlands
It all started here back in 2014 when they opened this one, as their first hotel. After the first successful opening more followed and there is now a collection of five locally inspired hotels in four different cities in Central Europe (Vienna, Düsseldorf, Amsterdam and Berlin. You can read about my stay at the one in Düsseldorf and Berlin). The Max Brown collection is part of Sircle Hotels which also includes Sir Hotels and Park Centraal Hotels. What the hotels have in common Is that they are all about relaxing and having a good time so you an always count on a comfy bed, good coffee and knowledgable staff.
This Max Brown is located in central Amsterdam, a short walk from the Central Station, right by the Herengracht which is one of the main canals. The location is the most perfect starting point to explore Amsterdam from. It is super central but not too rowdy which is the case with several parts of downtown Amsterdam. Fitted us perfectly!
The hotel is made up of three different canal houses that have been connected and turned into a hotel, but not fully. To access our room we had to go outside and enter through a tiny door. Our room was really cute with low ceilings and wooden panelling. The two big windows created such a close connection with the canal that it almost made it feel like we were sleeping on a house boat rather than a hotel. This closeness to the water connected well with the maritime theme of our room. This is a perfect hotel for a romantic getaway with someone you love (or like) where you can just lay in bed and watch the boats pass on the canal, right outside your window.

This place is perfect if you…
…are looking for a small, high quality boutique hotel when going to Amsterdam. And if you are like me, someone that wants to stay central but preferably in a quiet area, this is your place. You have all the action of Amsterdam around the corner but not right by your doorstep.
My favorite thing about this place…
…is to be able to stay right by a canal. There are plenty of hotels with canal views but those rooms are usually pretty expensive. This one I found was reasonable. And it is so wonderful to be able to lay in bed while watching boats sail by.
What not to miss when staying here is…
…to go to Haarlemmerstraat. This is a street that many visitors miss when staying in Amsterdam. This is where locals come to shop, hang out, drink coffee and just go about their every day life. It is located more or less around the corner from the hotel.
