Max Brown Hotel Midtown / Düsseldorf / Germany

Max Brown opened their first hotel in Amsterdam in 2014. They currently have 5 hotels in 4 great Central European cities: Berlin, Amsterdam, Vienna and this one that is located in Düsseldorf, Germany. Düsseldorf is one of those cities that fly under many people’s radar which is unfortunate since it is a really great place for a city break.

What I appreciate about Max Brown’s hotels (so far I have been staying at 3 of them. Here is my post about the one in Berlin) is that they don’t take themselves too seriously. It is a very laid back vibe at their hotels. But there are 4 things they do not kid around with. These 4 topics are almost like the pillars that the Max Brown concept rest on and they are: bread (they bake their own), coffee (yes please!), bed (mega comfy!) and location (yes! This one is located in Japan Town with plenty of great eaters around the corner).

The Max Brown Midtown is situated in what looks like a very anonymous 60:s building, all in concrete. But when you enter the vibe is totally different. Warm colors, palm tree wall paper, wood panels, patterned floor tiles and mid century leather arm chairs. This warm and welcoming look creates a huge contrast to the austere outside.

The rooms are just big enough which I always think makes sense when staying in a city hotel since most of the time is spent out and about anyway. In the room you’ll find the mandatories that you’ll have in all Max Brown hotels: a turn table, a toy basket ball hoop, an old school orange rotary phone and custom made art work.

I think it is so great when you take something that looks pretty unassuming and almost off-putting on the outside and turn it into something that evokes the complete opposite emotion on the inside.

Unfortunately the room I first stayed in was on the first floor where you entered directly from the stairs, so the noise from the reception/bar was a bit too loud for this grandpa. Therefore they were so kind to give me…another room, higher up in the building. Similar look but different color scheme.

The hotel is full of custom made art work and quotes that all has something to do with staying open and curious which is inline with the overall vibe of the hotel.

Düsseldorf is a very green city. Perfect town to stroll around in.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…are looking for a smaller, more intimate hotel with great service and excellent location in the middle of Japan Town.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is that they take coffee so seriously. This goes for all Max Brown hotels and that is something I really, really appreciate.

What not to miss when staying here is...

…to bring comfy shoes. Düsseldorf is a very walkable city and there are plenty of great places to stop for a drink or two. And when in Germany it is almost mandatory to stop by in one of the many Bier Gartens. Prost!
