Colourful, fun design B&B in central Utrecht

Daen’s / Utrecht / Netherlands

I’ve come to realize how much I love staying at small hotels and B&B:s. Ok, I love all kind of hotels but my appreciation for micro hotels is pretty new. And Daen’s in Utrecht is one of my latest finds.

Daen’s is actually more than only a hotel (or B&B). Daen’s is situated on the corner of a small city block and run a deli, a flower shop, a café a fashion store (with great stuff) and this three room hotel. They used to have one room and recently added two more.

The design of our room connects to the downstairs flower shop. This connection is visible in the fabulous wallpaper and that there are real plants in the room. It is unfortunate that this is so rare with real plants in hotel rooms since it really adds a totally different element. I wish more hotels would follow suite.

I also want to highlight the bold use of color with the blue painted vintage table that is the centre piece accompanied by pink side tables, red chairs, orange design details, green plants and the rich, coral red and marble bathroom.

And Willem who runs this place is the most wonderful host making sure you’ll have a good time while visiting Utrecht.

On the ground floor the amazing Daen’s flower shop. Our room is the one on the first floor.

You enter the hotel through the flower shop. A very green and welcoming entrance.

There is nothing minimalistic with this B&B. The colorful printed wallpaper sets the tone for this beautiful space.

I love the splashes of color in our room. Especially fond of the blue vintage table.

The bathroom is cleverly hidden in the corner of the room behind frosted glass.

Massive windows in our room that floods the space with light.

There is so much to discover in Utrecht. Remember to look up not to miss anything.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…want to go on a city weekend and like the privacy of staying at a micro hotel/B&B where you can retreat and hang out.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is that it is the total package. The sense of style and ”fingerspitzgefühl” is evident in the different branches of the business and I want to salute people who dare to think big and follow their gut and passion.

What not to miss when staying here…

…is to stroll around Utrecht. Like many Dutch cities there is a main canal lining the old city centre and it is a perfect walk to get to see more of this beautiful Dutch city before you get something to eat from the many great food outlets in Utrecht. I also must mention the central part where the canal is below street level which creates a different city scape compared to most other Dutch cities.
