ION City Hotel / Reykjavik / Iceland

If you haven’t been to Iceland you need to go. Iceland should be on everyone’s hot list of places to visit. It is such a fascinating island with crazy nature and beautiful scenery.

In the Icelandic capital you’ll find a number of really good hotels. When we visited we decided for this one, ION City Hotel that I found through Design Hotels (they have another hotel on the island, ION Adventure Hotel, which you can read about here).

ION City hotel has everything you might look for in an urban hotel. Located right on the main street, cool contemporary design and a great restaurant serving Middle Eastern inspired food.

The design of our room was minimalistic with clean lines and only some splashes of color. And maybe it makes full sense that the design is discreet since the senses are constantly teased when you are out and about in Iceland. It was kind of good to be able to relax the senses when returning to the hotel.

The corridor is very dark with lights showing the way to the room.

We slept so well in this bed. Everyday was full of impressions so we were totally exhausted when returning to the hotel

Our room was very discreetly designed except for the clear blue sofa. I loved sitting here people watching, with perfect view of the main street below.

The in-room products are so important. Here we could enjoy bath products from our backyard, L:A BRUKET from Varberg, Sweden.

There is so much to explore in Reykjavik. Like the Marshall House that was built with funds from the Marshall Fund, hence the name. A dream for someone like me that loves yellow.

This place is perfect if you…

…are looking for a great design hotel as a starting point for your exploration of the Icelandic capital.

My favorite thing about this place…

…was the sofa in the window of our room. I am a huge fan of people watching and it was a perfect place to look at the city life below.

What not to miss when staying here…

…is to put on some proper shoes and go out for a long walk through the city. It is a perfect sized city to explore by foot. Do not miss to pass by the bakery called Brau∂ & CO., located around the corner from the hotel. Their baked buns are to die for.
