Dark and cosy boutique hotel in Dutch Den Bosch

Duke Hotel / s’Hertogenbosch / Netherlands

If you are an avid reader of my blog you will know by now that one of my favorite things is to find great, unique hotels where you least expect it. There are so many hidden gems out there waiting to be discovered. Hotels that aren’t part of any chain, belong to any hotel community with hardly any marketing except for their own webpage and Insta profile. These hotels are hard to find but so rewarding when you do.

One of those hotels, located off the beaten track, is this one, the Duke in Den Bosch, The Netherlands. Or actually the town is called ’s-Hertogenbosch but to the locals it is Den Bosch.

The hotel is located right on Kerkstraat in the centre of town. The hotel is fairly hidden in a ”normal” building. You enter through a discreet door and take a couple if stairs up to the second floor where you’ll find the reception.

The Duke Hotel is built around a fictional character, The Duke who is a well-travelled guy with high demands on quality, service and leading a good life. All these things XXX. In total there are 39 the Duke rooms on offer (16 at the sister hotel the Little Duke Hotel, the rest here at the original). Two of the closest neighbors to the hotel are Citygym and Cityyoga so it easy to stay fit during your stay if the shopping and sightseeing doesn’t raise your pulse enough.

Den Bosch is a cute Dutch town. This photo is taken from our hotel room as the sun was slowly setting.

The W Amsterdam is made up of two buildings with totally different architecture and interior. The Exchange building is more modern with clean lines and the Bank is more traditional. This is from the Exchange.

The mood at the Duke is dark. Dark and cosy.

The corridor has an almost mysterious feeling with the dark colors and sombre lights.

I don’t think you need to ask if we slept well in this bed. Love the blue-green color in our room.

And yes, it is a sauna in the background. Perfect for us sauna loving Scandinavians with our own private in-room sauna.

We stayed during the Covid pandemic so the breakfast was served in our room. No complaints from our side when the cart looks this good.

The sun is rising over the roof tops and a new day is waiting for you.

Why not start it like M and I, with a run in the beautiful Bossche Broek, a hiking area located right outside the centre of Den Bosch.

This place is perfect if you…

…want to experience a different part of The Netherlands. Amsterdam and lately also Rotterdam pulls in the crowds but if you want to visit a typical Dutch town without the throngs of tourists, then book a room at this great boutique hotel in this cute Dutch town that has plenty of great restaurant and fun shops.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the size. I really love boutique hotels for the calmness and the attention to detail. It feels like it is easier to connect with other people staying here as well as the staff.

The quality booster…

…for us is that you can book a hotel room with your own sauna. Being from Scandinavia we love our saunas and currently living in The Netherlands is something we don’t get to do enough. So to have your own private sauna in your room really is a quality booster.

What not to miss when staying here is…

…to go for a long walk in the beautiful hiking area, the Bossche Broek. It is located a mere 5 min from the hotel and is a great place to go for a walk or run. Or maybe a picnic.
