Classic roadside motel turned hipster design hotel in outdoorsy Jackson
Anvil Hotel / Jackson / WY / USA
I first heard about this hotel in an issue of Monocle Magazine (an excellent source for hotel inspiration, by the way) and I knew I had to find a way to go here. And since I am an adult, I just decided to travel here (together with mr M, of course).
Anvil Hotel is a passion project of a guy called Erik Warner who bought an old motel and together with the amazing designers at Studio Tack (now renamed Post Company) transformed it into this welcoming, modern retreat. it is like a breath of Brooklyn in the middle of the Wyoming countryside.
I love how the design manages to balance modern with historic, global with local and trendy with timeless. To pull this off is almost an art form in itself. I am a huge fan of the two tone walls, the raw brass features and the wild west feeling. It is a design that feels both friendly and edgy,
There is a lot going on at the hotel. When we stayed here we both did some ”art work” (if you saw the result you would understand why the use of “) with water colors, joined an outdoor live music concert, took the hotel bikes for a spin… Basically, this is a place for the active crowd. But I think lazy worms are welcome too.

This place is perfect if you…
…are an active person. There is jaw dropping nature to explore in all directions. You can hike, canoe, ski, cycle - basically whatever you prefer. If you are this active person and you also appreciate to stay at a really cool place, what are you waiting for? Book a stay at the Anvil!
My favorite thing about this place…
…is the design, especially in the room. I also really like that you find everything you might need on site. A cool hotel shop, a small cafe with excellent coffee and a great restaurant.
What not to miss when staying here…
…is the nature! This part of the world is all about nature. Majestic mountains, rivers, deep forests, lakes... And just north of Jackson you’ll find the incredible Yellowstone National Park that must not be missed.
