Tasteful design hotel in central Amsterdam by Hoxton chain

Hoxton / Amsterdam / Netherlands

The story of the Hoxton hotel chain started back in 2006 when they turned a car park in Shoreditch, East London into their first hotel. In 2015 they ventured outside London and England when they opened their third property in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

This Hoxton hotel is located right in the centre of Amsterdam, in the middle of the 9 Streets area, right on the grand Herengracht canal. This 111-key hotel is true to the Hoxton legacy with the usual playful but at the same classy design. This used to be the home of the mayor so the building and the rooms have plenty of period features that are combined with more contemporary elements like tinted mirrors, leather head boards and smart brass lamps. At Hoxton they call this thoughtful design where the key words are vibrant, cosy and welcoming. And I think they manage to tick off all three items on that check list. .

One of the things I like with all Hoxton hotels (and this one is not exception) is open house, where guests and locals come together to hang, eat and drink. This openness leads to an intriguing vibe. An energy that is so pleasant to get caught up in.

Love the bold use of colors and that they have turned generic hallway into an art exhibit.

Old and new meets with vintage tiles and a bold, printed carpet. And a bike, of course. This is Amsterdam after all.

Our room at the Hoxton Amsterdam. Small and cozy.

Our room had so much going on with wood panels, a leather head board, multicolored tinted mirror and a wall that was only painted half way up. And it all comes together and looks so good!

I always read up on the places I visit and one of my favorites are the Monocle travel guides. They are such an inspiration!

Why not paint half of the wall in different colors?

The welcoming lobby area where locals and hotel guests usually hang together. This is taken early in the morning, hence no people. The Amsterdammers don’t love early mornings.

This place is perfect if you…

…want to stay at a really buzzing hotel when visiting Amsterdam. A hotel with a lot of energy and attitude but that is still welcoming and cosy. Then this is your place.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the unique design. You can tell immediately when you enter that this is a Hoxton hotel. There is a unique combination of colors, features and elements that only exists at the Hoxton hotels. And the result is that this hotel makes its guests look just as good.

What not to miss when staying here…

…I know this isn’t for all but I would say to get up early in the morning and go for a long walk in Amsterdam as the city wakes up. This is something I like to do in all cities I visit but it is even better in places that gets a lot of tourists. So good to have the place (almost) all to yourself and just wander aimlessly.
