Scandi-chic, rural design hotel with amazing pizzas in south Sweden
Örum 119 / Löderup / Sweden
In south Sweden there is an area called Österlen. This is a region with rolling hills, small villages and a beautiful coastline. I know some have been bold and described this as the Tuscany of the north. I am not sure if that is fully correct, but regardless, this is an area of intense beauty, just like it is Italian counterpart.
In the middle of the blooming intensely yellow rapeseed fields there is a hotel that every Summer brings in the crowds, both locals and all the visiting tourists. The reason is not only the amazing hotel but is spelled: pizza and ice cream. The sourdough pizzas are famous in this part of the country. They are made only with local products, baked in a wood fired oven (of course!). There is also an artisan ice cream shop with the amazing name Frusen Glädje (Frozen Joy) where they make the best ice cream with some really exciting flavor combos. There is also a garden shop that sells everything you might need (or didn’t know you needed) for your garden.
Ops! I got a little carried away there for a moment. All that writing about pizzas and ice cream. Back to the actual hotel. There are three different buildings that make up the Örum 119 Hotel: the Norrgavel House, the Farm Hotel and the Summer Hotel. The Farm Hotel is the is the main building and has 15 rooms. The Summer Hotel (that is only open during the Summer months) has another 15 rooms and then there is the Norrgavel House with 1 double room. The latter is created by Norrgavel founder, Nirvan Richter and furniture from this inspiring Swedish company is not only found in this house, but is found thorough the hotel. Their furniture fit so well in this scenery. One of the other design contributors at Örum 119 is another one of my favorites, Ingegerd Råman. Her designs fit so well at this place. Timeless, pure and simple.
RG inside info
This place is perfect if you…
…want a taste of what Summer in Sweden is all about. Sitting outdoors under an apple tree, sunshine (ok, sometimes rain…), food, friends, ice cream and lazy days.
My favorite thing about this place…
…is the design. The hotel has that typical, Scandi look with blonde wood and simple, no frills design. It is functional and the beauty sits in the simplicity. It is all very tactile, pure and reliable.
What not to miss when staying here…
…is to eat! Did I mention the pizzas? And the ice cream? And after you are full, make sure to spend time exploring the region. There is so much to do and see. Like the beautiful Sandhammaren Natural Reserve.
