Ace Hotel / Portland / OR / USA

Ok, I will just come out and say it. I love Ace Hotels! And I have done so from when I first heard about this new, innovative chain that were drawing in the hip creative community by the crowds. The first time I had the chance to stay at one of the Ace Hotels, my expectations were pretty high but that was no problem since it met all my expectations. And it was this one, Ace in Portland, Oregon.

Today the Ace Hotel chain has 11 hotels, mainly in different parts of the US. The three most recent to open are Brooklyn, Toronto and Kyoto and all three are already on my list of future hotels to stay at.

This Ace hotel is situated in the old Clyde Hotel building, perfectly located between Downtown Portland and the Pearl District. Just like the other Ace hotels it is a place that is welcoming both locals (to hang out) and visitors that are are staying over. This means that you always have people hanging out in the lobby, sipping coffee from in-house Stumptown coffee with a laptop or something to read. It all adds to the laidback feeling of the hotel which makes this a place that is so easy to fall in love with. I found a quote on their webpage that describes this in such an excellent way: ”Ace Hotel marries the pragmatic with the romantic, the private with the collective and the old world with the future.” This really sums up the whole Ace experience in a (poetic) nutshell.

The design is best described as quirky and bohemian. The hotel is filled with vintage furniture and fun details. A standard at all Ace Hotels are the turntables and stack of old LP:s that you’ll find in every room. And something that is always a two thumbs up for me is when there are real plants in the hotel room. So rare and so great.

i am obsessed with this vintage looking bathroom. To me being European, this whole look feels so American.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…stay at a hotel that feels like you are in the center of where everything happens. Ace Hotel Portland has been able to stay interesting and managed to make people want to hang/stay here ever since they opened. And if you like good shopping, the Pearl District is just around the corner.

My favorite thing about this place…

…I love the laid back atmosphere and that this is a place where it is easy to pretend you are part of the local life which is something I like a lot. And I love hotels that have a really good in-house coffee bar.

What not to miss when staying here…

…is to get your hands on a bike and explore Portland from the saddle. This is one of the few US cities that are really bike friendly.
