Subtle design hotel in downtown Stockholm by Swedish design legend Wingårdh
Miss Clara Hotel / Stockholm / Sweden
There is a Swedish architect called Gert Wingårdh who has become something of a living legend in Sweden. He comes from the west coast of Sweden (just like me) and has that whole not-taking-life-too-seriously thing down to a T. This is not only his persona but also translate into his work. Disclaimer: this doesn’t mean he is not super serious about his work, but rather that he wants to enjoy life and to make sure that people can and will enjoy life in the buildings he creates. In recent years he has started to also create hotels which I am beyond happy about.
Miss Clara Hotel is situated on one of the main arteries of Stockholm, Sveavägen, which means you basically have all of the Swedish capital right at your doorstep.
Miss Clara is part of the small and very interesting Nobis Group. This is their third venture in Stockholm (they also have one in Copenhagen and just opened one in Palma, Mallorca). The hotel is situated in a beautiful Art Nouveau building and thanks to the design of Wingårdh combines past and present in an amazing way..
The building was erected in the beginning of 20th Century and was an all girls school from 1910-1939. The much beloved head mistress was Miss Clara Strömberg, hence the name of the hotel. The 92 rooms have dark herringbone parquet floors and solid, raw materials and to balance the darkness they have made sure to maximize the amount of natural light
I really like the ambition they set for themselves at Miss Clara, ”to create an urban design hotel and spice it up with a more continental approach to service and interaction”. I must say that I really think they have succeeded.
The discreet entrance to Miss Clara Hotel, situated in a beautiful yellow Art Nouveau building in downtown Stockholm.
The reception says something about what you can expect from the rest of the hotel. A classy and classic look with contemporary elements.
Our room had a very simple Scandinavian look, but not the bright version bur rather a dark and more sombre one.
The room was flooded in natural light thanks to the massive windows. My favorite feature of the room was the dark brown herringbone parquet floors.
I always love myself a window sill you can sit in.

I always take the stairs when staying at a hotel, not only for the exercise but to see if they have taken their design all the way. Many times you stay at hotels where they have created a beautiful facade but I like places that does a proper job. Like here at Miss Clara.
Contemporary meets timeless in the lobby area.
Stockholm has its fair share of these pastels colored Art Nouveau buildings but I must say that Miss Clara might be one of the most stunning.
A short walk from Miss Clara you’ll find one of my favorites for breakfast, Pom & Flora.
Breakfast has been served. Eggs and coffee and I am a happy camper.

This place is perfect if you…
…are looking for a subtle design hotel in downtown Stockholm with airy, classic rooms
My favorite thing about this place…
…is that have decided to go dark. So many places in this part of the world go for the bright Scandi-chic look with blonde wood and discreet colors. At Miss Clara darkness plays centre stage which makes it extra suitable during the Autumn and Winter seasons.
What not to miss when staying here is…
…to go out for breakfast. I am a breakfast lover and there are so many great places right around the corner from the hotel. One of my favorite places is called Pom & Flora. And another one is Greasy Spoon. And Stockholm Brunch Club…
