Focus on: Winter bliss
If you want to cosy up this Winter…
I am one of those who love seasons. I know, it is almost provoking to some, especially when I share that I love when the days become shorter, temperatures drop and Winter is around the corner. But I fully understand that this isn’t everyones cup of tea. And if you are one of those people maybe a stay in a really great Winter hotel could be the best way to navigate (and survive) this (for some) challenging season.
Below I have listed five really great hotels that are perfect to escape to in Winter. For me this is the time to escape the city. A time to focus on how to maximize the degree of cosy. I am thinking cashmere jumpers, big scarves, chunky boots, thick blankets and warm drinks.
And how do you know if a hotel is a perfect Winter hotel? There has to be at least one open fire place. Preferably more.
Which one do you wanna go to?
Captain Whidbey Inn, Whidbey Island, WA, USA
This hotel is located on an island just outside Seattle in the north west USA. The hotel fits the bill perfectly with the main house looking like an old log cabin. The interior evokes a feeling of skiing vacations in the Scandinavian mountains from my childhood. And of course, there is a fire place.

Nääs Fabriker, Tollered, Sweden
This hotel is located just outside Gothenburg, west Sweden. This hotel used to be an old textile factory that has been transformed into a cosy hotel (with a fire place - of course!). Come Christmas there is a outdoor Christmas market outside the hotel where you can get some “glögg” (Swedish mulled wine), a Christmas tree and buy all your gifts.

Autocamp Russian River, Guerneville, CA, USA
Few things are cozier (at least to me) than staying in a caravan. Especially when the caravan is an old, classic Airstream. This “hotel” is located in north California a short drive from San Francisco. A camp site where the club house is where you come to warm by the fire place and roast some s’mores.

Ullr House, St Anton, Austria
Winter for me means skiing, both alpine and cross country. And few places offer better opportunities for this than the Austrian Alps. This great hotel is located in classic ski resort St Anton. A perfect hotel to cosy up after a day on the mountain and rest your tired legs in the hotel spa.

Timber Cove, Jenner, CA, USA
To stay by the sea in winter can be a dramatic affair. Or it can be totally calm. Regardless, looking out over an endless horizon is always a good idea. Especially when doing so from an hotel like Timber Cove, perched on a cliff on the north Californian cost. And you know what, here you even have your own fire place in the room.
