AutoCamp Russian River / Guerneville / CA / USA

Not all hotels are made up of a building with a reception, a restaurant and a number of rooms. Some hotels, like AutoCamp Russian River in Guerneville, California have trailers and tents instead of rooms. Guerneville, where AutoCamp Russian River, is right by the river with the same name. The river flows gently through the redwood forests of California wine country.

AutoCamp have set up camp on three different sites in the USA. Here in Russian River, in Yosemite and in Cape Cod on the east coast so they have really chosen three of the best locations in the US.

At the centre of the site there is the Club House where you’ll find the reception, a small shop and an open fireplace. The shop provides basically everything you might need during your stay: extra wood for the fire place, wine, cheese and snacks.

The Airstream trailers you stay in has the same level of design that you would expect to find in any other design hotel. And don’t worry, you sleep in a super comfy bed and there is a shower and bathroom in your trailer. When we stayed here it was just below freezing so we really had to snuggle up to keep warm which made the whole experience even better.

I love this photo and the contrast between the golden, warm club house and the misty, tall trees.

The campsite securely nestled under and between some magnificent redwoods.

You can almost visually see how cold it is in this picture. I couldn’t wait to go inside into our caravan.

I grew up in a camping family so this feels totally familiar to me. Brings back memories.

The reception. Not that often that you see heaters next to a hotel reception. The club house is an open building so I guess this is a necessity to be able to work here.

A short drive from the Autocamp you'll find this, the rugged, dramatic coastline.

This place is perfect if you…

…want to get close to nature and experience camping life but still don’t want to do the full extreme outdoor experience. This is an excellent compromise. It is also a great alternative if you are are to explore California wine country since you are basically right in the middle of it when staying at Russian River.

My favorite thing about this place…

…was to walk around in the evening as the mist from the river came rolling in between the majestic redwoods. And then to return to our Airstream and light a fire in our own little fire place.

Quality booster…

…are the freshly baked complimentary scones that they serve in the Club house in the morning. To start the day with one of those little babies next to the fire place felt like an excellent start to the day.

What not to miss when staying here…

…is Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve is just a short drive from AutoCamp. Go there if you haven’t been in a redwood forest before. It feels surreal to walk around beneath these giant trees that have been around here forever. Makes you feel incredibly small.
