Timber Cove / Jenner / CA / USA

High up on a cliff, with uninterrupted views of the Pacific there is an amazing hotel called Timber Cove Resort. It is located on the Sonoma Coast, a couple of hours north of San Francisco and trust me when I say that the drive here is spectacular. We had to stop many times to take in the scenery and to take photos to try to capture the view.

The original hotel was built in 1963 by Richard Clements Jr., who was both the architect and the owner. It wasn’t until 2016 that the current owners took over and started a gentle make over making sure to honor the past of this unique hotel. The color scheme is earthy with frequent use of local redwood and stone, mixed with plaid and worn leather. I decided to call this style a combo of Wild West and Californian hippie, and I really think it looks great.

Timber Cove is a resort in the true sense, meaning you never have to leave once you have checked in. Everything you could ever need is right there. If you do want to leave for an excursion, Sonoma wine country as well as majestic redwood forests are just a short drive away. But trust me, you don’t want to spend too much time away from this hotel. We savored every single minute here.

Timber Cove Resorts sits at the top of the cliff, facing the ocean. The heritage from the 1960:s is evident in the architecture.

I love the entrance to the hotel. The combo of wood and glass I stunning.

The huge lounge/bar/reception area is where we hung out most of the time.

There are fireplaces and there are fireplaces. This is a real statement piece. Perfect place to spend the afternoon after a chilly walk along the cliffs.

At the reception there are some really good vinyls that you can bring to your room and play on your own turntable.

Redwood is a reoccurring feature throughout the hotel. It makes for a beautiful head board

This I think is my favorite photo from our stay at Timber Cove. I love the sunlight on the wood.

Such a luxury to enjoy a fireplace in the room while listening to the sound of crashing waves

A balcony with a view.

The restaurant, like the rest of the hotel, has stunning views.

Talk about a bench with a view.

Me down on the beach considering to maybe go for a swim. I didn’t go in.

A modern totem pole, located on the cliffs behind the hotel.

The Sonoma coast line is dramatic. To the left you can see the road winding its way towards San Francisco and the Bay Area.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…like dramatic scenery. You will get that in spades, both on site and during your drive here. It is also perfect if you are one of those that like to stay put. That appreciate when everything is within arms reach, basically the resort life. I also think that if I would ever go somewhere to write a book, it would probably be here. Just have to save up first… :-)

My favorite thing about this place…

…has to be the location. I don’t think it would be possible to build something like this today (this close to the sea), but now when it is already there, I am happy to see that the owners are doing what they can to leave an as small foot print as possible.

What not to miss when staying here…

…is a hike along the cliffs. Put on some sturdy shoes and bring your camera. The scenery here is out of this world.
