White design dream surrounded by olive trees in sunny Puglia
Masseria Moroseta / Ostuni / Puglia / Italy
Masseria Moroseta took my breath away the minute we arrived. You drive along this old country road with ancient olive groves on each side ot the road. And all of a sudden this whitewashed cubist building appears. You have arrived!
Masseria Moroseta, located just outside Puglian town of Ostuni, is the passion project of owner Carlo. He is there to greet you when you arrive at the iron gate and he is there to make sure your stay meets your expectations.
This used to be a derelict, traditional Puglian farm that Carlo together with Andrew Trotter Studio transformed into a contemporary version of a traditional Puglian masseria, a little slice of heaven were purist architecture and vintage decor plays centre stage. The outside of the hotel has the typical white color that is tradition in this region and this makes it stand out among the grey-green of the surrounding olive groves.
At the back of the hotel there is an extensive olive grove framing the pool. Such a treat to relax here (until one of the three hotel dogs comes by for some cuddles and attention, which was a very welcoming disruption to the afternoon snooze since they are all so damned cute).
Masseria Moroseta has only 6 unique, carefully designed rooms and it is a very popular hotel after having been featured in several international magazines so a good piece of advice is to book your stay well in advance. I am already dreaming of my next stay at this amazing hotel.

This place is perfect if you…
…are looking for a place to relax and unwind. Since it is so small you get the feeling like you are staying in someone’s private villa where the owner lets you relax by the pool and enjoy the shade of the olive trees. And it is perfect for all who are fans of minimalist design. It is on point!
My favorite thing about this place is…
…the dogs. Carlo has three English bulldogs: Beppe, Emma and Pablo and one friendly cat named Gatta (Italian for cat) and this is really their place. You are the guest and these four little rascals basically do what they want. On top of this I also like that the Masseria is a functioning farm where they harvest olives from the grounds and that they take circularity seriously.

…is high! Five out five. This is Italy. Coffee is religion.
What not to miss when staying here is…
…to sign up for (at least) one of the dinners. On-site chef Georgia cooks up a storm and you enjoy dinner at the communal table that is the centerpiece in the living room of Masseria Moroseta. In the warmer months the action is moved outdoors. They don’t offer dinner every night so make sure you book your stay during at least one of these evenings. And also take the opportunity to visit the fascinating city of Matera a couple of hours drive away.
