Hotel Stelor / Gotland / Sweden

The island of Gotland draws visitors from all of Scandinavia during the Summer months. And it is not difficult to see why so many people come here and return year after year. This place has it all: beautiful nature, beaches, sunny weather (most of the time), good food and some really great places to stay. Like this one, Hotel Stelor.

Hotel Stelor is a genuine farm stay located almost 30 min south of the Visby, the main town and entry point for most visitors. Stelor is a true passion project of the owners, My and Linus. They had a dream of running their own place and found this old farm. A place where people can come to eat good food, stay the night and just relax. There are only 7 rooms in total so what you get here is a very intimate, close experience.

Most of what is served at the hotel is either grown on the farm or in the vicinity. My told us over breakfast one morning about the rounds she has to run each day just to get all the things they need (want) from farms close by.

The design is, just like the general atmosphere, very relaxed. My and Linus have really created something that mirrors the local surroundings. It feels like you are staying over in a friend’s Summer house. A Summer house that is all about… well, relaxing. That feeling is everywhere, from the joyfully printed bed linen, to the geranium plants on the window sill, to the plush sofas in the lounge, to the homemade bred for breakfast… I think you get the picture. :-)

Welcome to Stelor! An inviting farm stay on the West coast of sunny Gotland.

I love this design. It is so typical for a Swedish Summer house.

When stepping into our room it felt like we were in some friend’s Summer house. The design feels totally authentic.

Breakfast… My favorite meal of the day. Especially when it is like the one at Stelor.

Nothing beats real plants when wanting to create a homey welcoming feeling.

One of my favorite things about Stelor is the garden. Such a joy to sit in the shade, enjoying the calm and the green surroundings.

We ended up biking to nearby Tofta Strand and met up with our friends M and Å.

There is so much to see on Gotland. This is from the dramatic south with steep cliffs plunging into the sea.

Sun is setting on Stelor and it is time to say goodnight.

This place is perfect if you…

…want to stay at a place where you can come as you are. Some places (especially on Gotland) has a tendency to look like you are in a real life fashion show, but not here. This is the kind of place where you just want sit barefoot in some worn linen shirt in the garden, reading a book in the shade.

My favorite thing about this place…

…there are so many things… I guess I would say how much My and Linus cares about us guests. That they want us to like their place just was much as they do. I also really, really love how they take sustainability seriously. And how they source almost everything they serve from nearby farms. The strawberries were divine!

What not to miss when staying here…

…is a bike ride along the coast. There are bikes at your disposal at Stelor, so just grab one and head south or north along the coast. Stop at some shop along the way to grab something to eat and have a picnic on one of the many beaches. Although this island is a popular Summer destination these parts rarely get crowded.
