17-key boutique hotel in East London showcasing the work of design icons

Boundary Shoreditch / London / Great Britain

There is a street in London that is more or less perfect in my eyes. It is called Redchurch Street and is a back street just off Shoreditch High Street. This street has the perfect mix of big, international brands and lesser known locals ones. Pubs, barbershop, restaurants, cafés and best of all, a fun vibe. On this fairly short street there are two hotels, Redchurch Townhouse and this one, the Boundary Shoredich.

The Boundary Shoreditch was the late Terence Conran’s first hotel project. He was a world renowned design icon and the man who in the 1960s created interior design chain, Habitat. The work was completed in 2009 when this 17-key hotel opened its doors. A time when this area was much less gentrified than today.

The building is an old converted warehouse and the design theme is to showcase some of Conran’s own favorite styles like Shaker and Scandinavian as well as some of his favorite designers such as Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe.

We stayed in the Mies van der Rohe room, which was a spacious room with exposed brick walls and windows in two directions, making the room feel flooded in light. The furniture are all Mies van der Rohe classics, such as a cognac colored Barcelona chair and a black and chrome MR chair paired with an Executive Desk. Basically a great looking hotel with a perfect location for your East London adventure.

The Boundary Hotel is located on my favorite street in Shoreditch, Redchurch Street. Actually, I think it is my favorite street in London.

Welcome to the Boundary Hotel!

The Boundary is situated in an old converted warehouse.

I love this hand drawn overview of the hotel, sitting on a wall right next to the elevators showcasing the different rooms and their theme.

We stayed in the Mies van der Rohe room. It is a tribute to one of Conran’s favorite designers.

Our room was airy with windows in the directions drowning the room with light.

Our huge, comfy bed.

Classic Mies van der Rohe Barcelona chair, framed by raw, exposed brick.

Our room was like staying in a Mies van der Rohe exhibit.

Love when there are books in a hotel room.

There is something I always wonder about, and that is why more bathrooms aren’t designed in softer, sandy tones like the one in our room. So much gentler when you see yourself in the mirror.

Bath room products from favorite Aussie skin care company Aesop.

One of the best parts of the hotel. the roof top bar & grill with views of Shoreditch. Perfect spot for a drink in the Summer sun.

Downstairs there is a bar & brasserie, perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

And if you venture out, Redchurch Street is literally right on your doorstep.

One of my favorite things to do in London is to stroll aimlessly around and I especially love when I come across these cute little city parks. This is Boundary Gardens, a short stroll from the hotel.

I am a big breakfast lover and this is one of my favorite places, The Breakfast Club. Located 10 min walk from the hotel.

Yum!

There are so many great spots for street food in Shoreditch. This is what I picked up at Crown Kebab, down the street from the hotel. Delicious!

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…like the design classics and you are looking to stay at a hotel in the middle of the action where you have the best parts of East London literally right outside the entrance of the hotel.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the size of the room. We stayed in one of the standard sized rooms and it was airy and spacious with windows in two different directions, drowning the room in light.

What not to miss when staying here is…

…to eat breakfast. There are so many great places for food in this area. One of my favorites is Breakfast Club, which is located a short 10 min walk from the hotel. I usually want to order everything on the menu, but regardless what I end up ordering you can bet on that it comes with a side of grilled halloumi.
