Friendly and warm city hotel in sunny Perth

Alex Hotel / Perth / WA / Australia

We had decided to go back to one of our favorite countries, Australia. We were planning to go to the popular east coast until two friends, who has lived in Perth, convinced us to redirect our focus to the west instead. A part of Australia that is often ignored by people like us visiting from overseas. And boy were we happy we listened.

When I started to look for a cool place to stay I found this one, Alex Hotel. A really laid-back (ok, what hotel in Australia isn’t laid-back?) independent boutique hotel in the cultural heart of Perth. When you exit the hotel you have loads of cafés, restaurants and bars within crawling distance.

The design of the 74 rooms is minimalist and warm. Our room was painted in muted, earthy tones which almost felt like a reflection of the Australian desert.

One of the favorite parts of the hotel was the mezzanine where there is plenty of space to hang out with a book and rest your feet after a long day exploring the city.

Our stylish room. Minimalist with some carefully selected design features.

Downtown Perth and the CBD is just a short walk from the hotel.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…are planning to come to the capital of Western Australia and you want to stay in a hotel with loads of personality (there are enough generic business hotels to go around). And if you want to stay in the most interesting area of Perth. Then the Alex is the place for you.

My favorite thing about this place…

…this is almost sad to admit, but they serve these amazing muffins for breakfast. Both sweet ones and savory and I have to confess that I don’t remember how many I had but it was a lot. And still that wasn’t enough.

What not to miss when staying here…

…is to borrow one of the hotel bikes and venture out to explore this up and coming city from the saddle. There are plenty of watering holes to stop at for a fresh drink when the Australian sun becomes to hot to handle and you need to find some shade.
