Classic Austrian Alp hotel with a contemporary look and feel

Wiesergut / Hinterglemm / Salzburgerland / Austria

I love the Alps! It doesn’t matter what time of the year, this region has an incredibly strong pull on me. And it isn’t only the nature with the majestic mountains and grass covered hillsides but the total package, the way of living and how that has resulted in an xxx design style.

In the middle of Salzburgerland, you’ll find this amazing hotel, Hotel Wiesergut. I got it recommended by two friends. Even though the sharing of their experience had led to high expectations, Wiesergut still managed to live up to them. This hotel is located by the foot of the Zwölferkogel mountain. Somehow it almost seems like it is leaning on the mountain for protection and support. Wiesergut is surrounded by intensely green alpine meadows (we went here in Summer) full of flowers in all kinds of colors.

The design of Wiesergut is what I would call modern alpine where you can see traces of an aesthetic that has existed in these parts for centuries. One might think that this would leave an outdated feeling but since the alpine style has been subtly updated it makes it feel timeless. Although the style is fairly minimalist it still protrudes warmth and comfort.

Saalbach-Hinterglemm is a world famous ski- and hiking region so regardless when you come here there is so many different activities to chose from. If skiing is your thing, the closest lift is more or less around the corner. If you stay at the hotel there is enough to keep you busy, The spa area is incredible with saunas and several pools. A great place to relax after a day on the mountain.

Welcome to Wiesergut, right at the foot of Zwölferkogel mountain.

Enough fuel to last the Winter. I love how it makes the whole hotel smell of freshly chopped wood. Beats all the artificial scent enhancers all days of the week.

The Austrians sure know how to fluff their duvets. It was a dream to go to bed and hide under these babies.

Different kind of wood is a reoccurring feature in the hotel. The design is minimalist but still somehow warm and inviting.

Being 191 cm tall it is always a challenge finding robes that fit. They usually tend to look like a mini skirt on me. :-)

Practicing my freestyle in the hotel pool. Rumor has it that since we were here an outdoor pool as been added. That is reason enough to book another stay at Wiesergut.

Some heavy, delicious mountain food. A classic Kasnockerln gives you enough energy to make the hike back home. This is from favorite place Spielberghaus.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…want to go on a skiing- or hiking holiday but you don’t want to negotiate when it comes to the standard of the place you are staying at. This place has design up the wazoo.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the relaxed feeling that feels just right. Sometimes when staying at a hotel it is almost like you are pushed to feel relaxed. A very suffocating feeling. At Wiesergut they manage to balance it at a great level. It all feels very natural. And relaxed. :-)

What not to miss when staying here…

…I have an old friend who used to live here. She worked in one of the restaurants located up in the mountains. The place is called Spielberghaus (the massive moose head mounted on the wall she actually transported in her small car all the way from Sweden) and it is well worth a visit. If you go, don’t miss to order the Kasnockerln and the Kaiserschmarren. You will not regret it. But make sure to ask for help to finish it. The portions are massive.
