The W Hotel / Amsterdam / Netherlands

The W is part of the Marriott group and has almost 60 hotels in more than 50 different destinations, with 35 additional hotel projects in pipeline. Their journey started in NYC and they try to add some of the NYC feel to all of their hotels. Their concept is built around 4 corner stones: Music, Fuel, Design and Fashion.

The W Hotel in Amsterdam is located smack in the middle of town. It is situated in two iconic buildings with totally different architecture. One is the former telephone exchange and the other used to be a bank. I think they have made a great job highlighting the architecture of these unique buildings and created a connection from the outside to the interior design. The overall result is a great mix of classic heritage and edgy contemporary style. The bank building has more of the former and the exchange building more of the latter. And the best thing is you can chose what building you want to stay at that best fit your taste.

All in all there are 238 rooms, two restaurants, a roof top bar, a roof top pool, an award winning spa, a design shop and everything else you might need during your city weekend. Trust me, it is a challenge to leave the hotel with everything it has to offer but luckily Amsterdam has enough to lure you out. Before it is time to return back to make the most out of your stay at this design destination.

Our room was in the older building of the two, the Bank building. Just look at this grand entrance.

The nods to the past of the building pops up here and there. Like the old security deposit boxes that now is the backdrop of the reception in the Bank building. I don’t think the tassels where there back in the day.

Said it before and will probably say it again, love hotel rooms with slanted ceiling.

This might the best looking lobby/elevator doors ever. I am in love with the graphic tiles and the golden brass elevator doors.

The W Amsterdam is made up of two buildings with totally different architecture and interior. The Exchange building is more modern with clean lines and the Bank is more traditional. This is from the Exchange.

Very contemporary and straight lines in the Exchange building.

A fun way to remind people about keeping Covid distance.

One of the best parts about staying here is the looong roof top pool with excellent views of the Amsterdam roof tops.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…want to stay at a full service hotel during your visit to Amsterdam. The people at W Amsterdam will do everything they can to make your stay a memorable one. It is located in the centre of town with the popular 9 streets area around the corner.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the roof top pool. I am always a big fan of root top pools and especially when staying at city hotels. There is something about splashing around in a pool while looking out over the roof tops of Amsterdam.

What not to miss when staying here…

…is to leave the hotel. It is easy to forget that one of the world’s most exciting cities are waiting outside the door.
