Locanda Don Ferrante / Monopoli / Italy

Puglia, south Italy is a treasure chest when it comes to great hotels. Wherever you turn there are interesting hotels waiting to be discovered and I was so happy when I found this one, Locanda Don Ferrante in Monopoli.

You have to walk through winding alleys of this ancient town to get to the hotel. It is located in the heart of Monopoli’s historical centre, in a row of town houses, built into the old city wall. On one side you have great views of the centre of town and on the other side the Adriatic Sea.

The design feels very rustic with a combination of rendered, white walls and ancient stone. This look is the same, both on the inside and the outside of the building which gives the hotel an authentic feeling.

The Don Ferrante is located on the cliff, overlooking the Adriatic Sea.

A cosy little nook on the roof top, perfect for an “aperitivo” in the setting sun.

I am obsessed with this photo (it is M who took it so I am not obsessed with my own work :-)) and the combination of the blue, white and green.

The sun is setting over Monopoli and it is time…

…to locate the best pizza in town. I think we succeeded.

New day, the sun is rising over the hotel pool and it is time for the first dip of the day.

The breakfast room is located in one of the old vaults of the hotel.

Love how the morning sun is filling the space with light, making it look golden.

Breakfast for two. Eating here made us feel like we were on a cruise ship. I forgot what I ate since the view was so intoxicating.

I don’t know if it could get more Italian than this. The alleys of Monopoli are so beautiful. We spent hours exploring this seaside town getting lost in the maze like centre.

This place is perfect if you…

…want to experience something out of the ordinary. The city of Monopoli is such a great backdrop to this hotel. It sets a romantic, pure Italian tone even before you’ve arrived at the hotel.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the roof top. Such a great place to spend a lazy afternoon, splashing around in the pool looking out over the Adriatic Sea with a Aperol Spritz within arms reach.

What not to miss when staying here…

…is to wander aimlessly around town and getting lost in the alleys of Monopoli. Make sure to stop for gelato every now and then to refill with some energy. And just because it is so damn delicious.
