Buzzing Amsterdam hotel with quirky design and the right kind of coolness

SoHo House / Amsterdam / Netherlands

I have wanted to stay at SoHo House for a loooong time but since it is usually members only, it has been more or less impossible - until now. I guess it is a consequence of the current Covid situation that they have decided to open up their doors to us mere mortals. And we were fast to jump on the opportunity.

SoHo House in Amsterdam is located right in the centre of town, by the Singel canal in the beautiful Bungehuis building. It dates back to the 1930:s and many of the original features are still intact. SoHo House has more or less everything you need under the same roof: cinema, roof top pool, spa, gym, restaurant, bar…

It is easy to overuse the word ”unique” when talking about design, but in this case it really applies. Or maybe ”eclectic” is a better word to describe the style. I have never seen a blue leather covered bed with studs before. And in most settings it could probably look misplaced, but in this one it totally works.

Now my only issue is how to find a way to weasel myself into one of the other SoHo Houses…

It is easy to see why people in Amsterdam say this is an iconic building.

Even the stairwell is breathtaking in this building. The vintage tiles against the worn wooden sofa is just too much!

Original mosaic floors, tiled walls and amazing vintage lamps. Haven’t seen many elevators look this good.

It was such a treat to wander the halls of the SoHo House. Old and new in perfect unison.

I love everything about this. The font of the room numbers, the lamp, how they have used dark wood to highlight the color blocking effect, the wooden door. Yup, everything.

Here is the famous blue leather bed.. I salute all brave (mad) design choices.

The interior is really unique and I love it. It is so off that it is on.

The massive factory style windows flooded our room in light.

A comfy little chair in the corner of our room to kick back in.

This might be the mother of all mini bars. There was even a small perfume like bottle of vermouth to spray your dry martini glass with. Very classy!

The bathroom looked equally stunning with blue painted wood panels and vintage lamps.

When staying here you don’t have to bring anything. Everything you might need is to be found in your room.

Since this is a members club and a hotel there are plenty of spaces/living rooms to hang out in.

Took this photo early in the morning before people started to arrive.

The restaurant and bar area is full of plants and has a golden, cozy vibe.

I am a sucker for this kind of architecture with strict lines and geometric alignment.

Amsterdam in the Autumn is something everyone should have the opportunity to experience.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…want to go on a city break where you can rub shoulders (with social distancing, of course) with the creative glitterati of Amsterdam. The location is perfect to explore Amsterdam with the shopping Mecca 9 Straatjes right around the corner. Or to be totally correct, around the corner and over a bridge.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the service. You can tell that the people working here are used to meeting guests with high demands and know how to make them (us) happy. I love that you had everything you needed in your room so you could travel without any toiletries. I also want to mention that the onsite Italian restaurant Cecconi’s only have Italians working there. And the food isn’t too shabby either. :-)

What not to miss when staying here…

…is to get up early in the morning and go for a morning swim in the roof top pool while the sun is rising over the roof tops of Amsterdam. It was an almost surreal feeling.
