Sir Adam / Amsterdam / Netherlands

Sir Adam is the second Amsterdam property of this 6 hotel chain. The other four are found in Barcelona, Hamburg, Barcelona and Ibiza. The Sir Hotels are for all of us who are looking for authentic experiences in unique locations. And this is totally the case for Sir Adam. It is located in Amsterdam North, on the other side of the IJ River from the central station, so the best way to arrive is by the short (free) ferry ride. And the uniqueness doesn’t stop there. The hotel is situated in the iconic A’DAM Tower which today is a creative hub for everything music.

The A’DAM Tower, dating back to 1971 is a real ode to that period with its straight lines but yet futuristic features. 22 floors housing everything from Sony Music to classic guitar brand Gibson. Sir Adam is on the first 8 floors. with a total of 108 rooms.

In total there are 108 rooms, all with an industrial look but the music theme of the A’DAM Tower shows up in the design.. Our room had exposed concrete ceilings that gave it a brutalist look and this was combined with a huge music themed piece of art as a back drop of the bed. But the thing that really did it for me were the floor-to-ceiling windows. The wall in our room was lined with them and they flooded the space with light. We decided to go for a room with views of the city which I can highly recommend. It was such a treat (almost hypnotizing) to sit in the window sill and look at the city on the other side of the river and all the boats going back and forth.

We were staying here with friends who have two kids and the thing they loved the most about the hotel? The karaoke elevators. They were riding them up and down and up again just to get to sing along to old ABBA tunes. If you don’t want to leave the hotel for food, don’t worry! There is a Butcher’s Social Club on site that serves great food. Their burgers are to die for. And if you do want to leave, Amsterdam is waiting for you on the other side of the river.

The best way to arrive in style is to take the ferry (in the photo) that leaves from the back of the Central Station, over the IJ River to Amsterdam North.

A new day begins at Borgo Eibn as the sun is slowly rising behind the mountains. So how does one spend a day at this amazing mountain resort, one might wonder…?

The iconic A’DAM Tower. it is easy to see where the icon status comes from. This is 70:s architecture at its best.

The corridors made me feel like I was in some cool nightclub. And of course there was music playing to set the right mood.

…it was time to hit breakfast. Yum!

Our mega comfy bed with he music themed back drop. Industrial but still soft.

I love myself some classic, retro features. Like this upgraded take on a classic phone. It also added a splash of color to our room.

After filling our bodies with all those Italian breakfast goodies we walked it all off (yeah, right…) through our hike down to the lake. So stunning! It almost looks unreal.

M enjoying some downtime looking out over the Amsterdam skyline and River IJ. Remember to book a room with a city view. It is well worth it!

A desk with a view. A perfect spot for your “home” office. Easy to feel the creative juices flowing with this view of the surprisingly green Amsterdam North.

All rooms are equipped with a turntable. And a pair of binoculars to be able to really to take in the surroundings.

The bar/lobby area has plenty of space to kick back and relax with something to drink and a lot of great magazines to read.

A cosy booth for two.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…are going to Amsterdam and you want to stay at a unique hotel. A hotel that is super close to the action but still just far enough away for you to be able to have a relaxing time when it is time to call it a night. And if you like iconic architecture from the 70:s, this is totally your place.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is how you arrive. There is something so exotic about arriving to a hotel by boat And I also think I have to mention the karaoke elevators. Not only fun for our friends’ kids who we stayed here with but also for us adults. I had to go up and down a couple of times to finish my version of Rick Astley’s - “Never gonna give you up”. I killed it. If you ask me. :-)

What not to miss when staying here is…

…is to book a room with city views. It is a must.
