Sleek, modern gourmet hotel with only 4 rooms in rural Belgium
Pure Hotel / Diksmuide / Belgium
To find great hotels off the beaten track is something I am always on the look out for. Compared to hotels in popular tourist destinations and big cities come easier. There are so many magazines, blogs, travel guides that cover those, but the ones located far from where most people travel demand some more detective work. And this just makes finding them even sweeter.
This hotel started with a restaurant in 2004. A restaurant that became very popular and they wanted to offer the guests a place to stay over. There was a small courtyard house but the architect inspired them to go bigger. And they did. The hotel was completed in 2013 and feels just as contemporary today.
There are only 4 rooms which gives the hotel a very private feeling. You enter your room and it is almost as if you are at your own residence. The design of the interior matches the exterior which means a fairly strict, minimalistic style but still with a loth of warmth and some unexpected details. Like the curtains that are cleverly hidden behind the closets but come evening you pull them all around the room which makes you feel snug like a bug in a rug.
On site there is a sauna and a really great pool, placed next to the house in what used to be a small patch where they used to grown produce for the restaurant. On the opposite side of the building there is a large garden with a massive red beech. This massive tree is over 300 years old and is really the central point of this lovely hotel and restaurant.

This place is perfect if you…
…like modern design and great food. If you are looking for a calm hotel to recharge your batteries this is your place.
My favorite thing about this place…
…is the design. I think it is an art form to create something that looks this modern without it becoming too stale or impersonal.
The quality booster…
…is that you get offered a glass of (real) champagne when you arrive. Such a great way to be welcomed. Take note other hoteliers!
Selected by RG Coffee Index…
…is 5 of 5. I love when you can get a proper cappuccino with your breakfast and that you are offered a new one as soon as the first one is finished.
What not to miss when staying here is…
…this is an area where there are plenty of historic sites connected to WWI. It is an eerie feeling to visit these sites, to walk in old trenches knowing how many people were killed in that war. But I think these places should be visited to never forget.
