Classic Lake Tahoe motel designed for adventure, between lake and mountain
Basecamp / South Lake Tahoe / CA /USA
I will just come right out and say it (again): I love motels! Motels are so closely connected to the whole concept of road trips, which I hate to admit, is my favorite way to vacation. To have the freedom to go where the road takes you, and whenever you want to stop, there is a motel to welcome you.
I probably don’t need to clarify this but I’ll do it just in case. it is not the generic, bland motels I am referring to but the ones that have been taken care of, either as a kind of homage to its past or that has been brought into the 21st century to meet the needs of the modern traveller. And regardless of which, they always have to have something unique for me to recommend them.
This one, Basecamp in Tahoe South is right up my alley. It belongs to a 3 motel chain (one in Boulder, CO and two in the Lake Tahoe area). All in all there are 73 rooms designed for adventure. The motel is located a short walk from the lake and an equally short walk from the Heavenly Ski Area gondola. So basically, this place is the perfect starting point for your Lake Tahoe adventure.

This place is perfect if you…
…like me love motels and if you like to stay at places where everyone is wearing functional gear and there are no fancy clothes in sight. If you like skiing, hiking and water sports, this is your place.
My favorite thing about this place…
…was the courtyard. I like when it becomes a place where people linger. A place to relax after a day on the mountain with something cold to drink by the glow of an open fire.
What not to miss when staying here is…
…to do something adventurous or sporty. The options at Lake Tahoe are endless. We were here in Winter so the choice was easy for us: skiing, both alpine and cross-country. The scenery and the nature is so stunning.
