Friends of RG: Fanny

Friends of RG: Fanny

Fanny is a long time friend of RG’s, or actually she is more like a sister, and they have experienced many, many adventures together across the globe. She is currently living with her family in Shanghai, China while she is still staying closely connected to her roots on the Swedish west coast and the Danish island of Bornholm. She is a lover of the finer things in life and is, just like RG, a true hotel fanatic.

What hotel were you staying at when you first realised that you were a hotel fanatic?

The first time that I understood that I was a five star glamour junky was when I stayed at Layana Resort on Koh Lanta, Thailand. Before we were staying at a VERY simply hotel that suited our travel budget. One afternoon while on a walk we saw this amazing newly built resort further down the beach. We got a great opening offer and instantly moved in. The two nights that we stayed at the resort were amazing and I realised what a big part the hotel plays for me during a vacation. Today, I would rather prefer not to travel if I cannot stay at a really nice hotel.

What kind of hotel do you usually go for?

I am staying at so many hotels that I do not like, due to work travel policies and having to adapt to family needs and budget, but I must honestly say that I believe that I am worth so much better :-)

I really enjoy the times when I am travelling with my husband or friends and we select a hotel based on our wishes. When I can choose, I go for the old fashioned, romantic and glamorous style with amazing service where there is an attention to details.

What has been your most memorable hotel stay thus far? And why?

I have to say Vigilius Mountain Resort. I love the alps and this amazing spa hotel has a fantastic modern architecture that is so cleverly integrated into nature. The room, the view, the food and the spa is like a dream and I have to admit that I actually stayed up all night in order to maximise every minute of my stay.

3 of your must-haves when staying at a hotel?

For me the service is the most important part. A very simple hotel can rise to the stars with excellent service.

That they offer drinks and food of some kind. I love to go out to nice restaurants but if I want some snacks, a coffee or a light meal at the hotel, that has to be possible.

And the standard needs to be high. I can enjoy many different styles (even if I like the old fashioned maximalistic style the best) but the standard has to be high.

If you have stayed at any of the hotels featured on SbRG, which one is your favourite?

It is impossible to only choose one. Some of my favourites are Dorsia in Gothenburg, Sweden, 1898 The Post in Ghent, Belgium, The Pig at Combe in Devon, Great Britain and Soho House in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

And I love Parc Hotel Billia in the Aosta Valley. All of these are stylish hotels with a warm, and glamorous feeling.

This is Parc Hotel Billia in Saint-Vincent, Aosta Valley, Italy which is one of Fanny’s many favorite hotels.

Which of the featured hotels on Selected by RG are on the top of your wish list to stay at?

There are so many…. I think I would refuse to leave if I would have the chance to stay at Ett Hem in Stockholm.

I also like hotels that are designed in away that it’s a part of the landscape and that’s why I would love to stay at Juvet Landscape Hotel in Norway. I would also like to stay at the AEON Hotel in Italy while skiing in the Dolomites. I love the combination of skiing and staying at a great spa hotel. It’s in the middle of nature, modern but feels like a warm atmosphere. The minimalistic and modern hotels can feel so cold to me sometimes. This is an adult only hotel so this will be something for the future.

This is Ett Hem, the hotel that Fanny would have to be forced out of if she would stay here.

Is there any hotel that you’ve stayed at that you think should be featured on Selected by RG in the future?

I have recently moved to Shanghai so I would wish for some more hotels in Asia.
