Follonico / Montefollonico / Italy

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I just feel this strong urge to escape the city and unwind and disconnect from the everyday. When this urge kicks in I am so grateful that places such as this exist. This B&B is called Follonico and is located deep in Tuscan countryside, outside the village of Montefollonico. It is really in the middle of nowhere. A place where you need GPS coordinates to find the final destination. Basically, it is perfect for a rural escape.

Follonico has 6 individually designed rooms that captures the essence of Tuscany. It all fits together in perfect harmony without becoming a pastiche. It feels authentic.

Suzanna and Fabio, who are the proprietors of this B&B, have taken what was an old ruin dating back to the 18th Century and with tenacity and passion turned it into a luxurious retreat. What is important to clarify is that the luxurious feeling comes from the tranquillity, the hospitality, the authenticity. Maybe this is the real definition of lux.

Follonico is a stone palace surrounded by the lush, rolling hills that made this part of Italy so famous.

Many of the original details have been saved and restored which is a reminder of the rich past of this B&B.

Welcome into our room, hidden by this old wooden door where the age is really showing.

This photo of our bed almost looks like a painting. And to tell you the truth, the interior design almost feels like a work of art in many ways.

I’ve found. a quiet spot in the garden for a read in the sun, sensing the scent of lavender every time there was a gust of wind.

My favorite time of day, the golden hour, just when the sun is disappearing behind the the green hills.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…want to unwind and you dream of doing so in a beautiful Tuscan setting.

My favorite thing about this place…

…it would be easy to say everything but I will try to be sharper and say the hospitality. Suzanna and Fabio really made us feel so welcomed and their relaxed approach to hospitality and life in general made us experts in the ”dolce far niente”, the Italian art of doing nothing.

What not to miss when staying here…

… I would say skip everything. Park the car and just stay here and enjoy the B&B, the scenery and the calm. That is what we did. But if you do want to go on an excursion, picturesque Montepulciano is not far away where you can wander the streets and find some excellent red wine.
