Cubanito / Ibiza / Spain

Ibiza usually attracts two main groups of people, the alternative hippies (or the so called ”Gypsetters”) and the party crowd (”Hello foam party!”). And if you like us belong to neither of these it can be somewhat tricky to find great and suitable hotels to stay at. But now you don’t have to look any further.

The Cubanito Ibiza Suites is located on the outskirts of San Antonio, home to the famous Ibiza sunset. This hotel belongs to local chain, Concept Hotel Group with 6 hotels on the island and the 7th on the way. When staying at the Cubanito you are just a short walk from the famous Cafe Del Mar and secluded Cala Gració beach.

The Cubanito is a mix of classic Havana with colonial features combined with Little Havana in Miami and Art Deco design. The hotels has a retro feel with an air of the 1950:s. You get this feel already when you arrive and spot the classic vintage Cadillac parked on the drive way. There is a kitschy look and feel to the Cubanito which I really like and the hotel is very photogenic with warm, vibrant colors, wooden ceiling fans and vintage furniture. It all feels (and looks) very Buena Vista Social Club and I am a fan.

This is an adults only hotel which means there are no problems having a drink at the pool. And when talking about drinks, it is a must to go for at least one drink on the roof top terrace. Up here you have the best possible view of the San Antonio Bay and the sunset. It was such a treat watching the sun go down while drinking a ice cold G&T and listening to some soft Cuban music.

Welcome to the light airy entrance of W Ibiza.

Welcome to the bright and colorful entrance of the Cubanito.

This beauty, a vintage Cadillac, is parked by the entrance to add some Cuban flair.

The contrasts greet you from the get go. The modern light installation and the lush, green plant wall with the signature W sign.

The warm wooden interior of the Cubanito is waiting for you on the other side of these glass doors.

First I wasn’t sure if I was a fan of this color or not but it kind of grew on me. What I can say it is that it is unique since I’m pretty sure I have never seen this color used as the signature color in any hotel I’ve stayed at before.

Ok, I love this The modern, white, square looking building comes to live with the sun shades in different colors.

I’ve never been to Cuba but I kind of hope it looks like this. I loved our room. Very unique design with woven bed frame, ceiling fan, vintage phone and chess tiled floors.

The walls of the common spaces are covered by these textile wall bringing in vivid colors and tactile surfaces. Feels very Missoni-ish.

A bathroom with palm tree wallpaper… What is not to love?

The corridors are very discreet looking with fitted carpets and both walls and doors in muted colors.

Our shady balcony was a perfect place to relax when the sun was just too hot mid day.

The tiled pool was the best way to stay cool in the hot Ibizan sun. My favorite was to sit in one of the loungers IN the pool with my feet in the water.

Love this blanket on our bed. If it was for sale I would totally get one for home.

The view from our room. Love the tiles and how they are used throughout the hotel

Love this photo (if I may say so myself since I took it. :-)) of the mini bar in our room. Always a fan of mirroring effects.

Maybe the best part of the hotel, the roof top bar with an amazing view of the Sant Antonio bay and the famous Ibiza sunset.

The bar area’s lead character is this massive stair case. The clash between the neutral micro-concrete and the colorful cushions and pillows is everything.

A dramatic sunset seen from the roof top bar.

Around the corner from the hotel there is the loveliest little bay with the clearest water. It is called Cala Gracie and is the perfect place for a snorkeling session.

I am a brunch maniac and a short walk from the hotel we had the best brunch on the island at the Skinny Kitchen.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…prefer to live close enough to the action but not in the middle of the madness. Cubanito is located within walking distance from the party capital, San Antonio but far enough to get some calm when you need to recharge your batteries.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the roof top bar. It is THE best place to see the famous Ibizan sunset from. From the roof you have the entire San Antonio Bay at your feet and it sure beats seeing the sunset with some soft Cuban music and a chilling drink in your hand compared to sitting on an uncomfortable cliff with thousands of others having a luke warm drink in your hand.

What not to miss when staying here is…

…to walk down to the cute little Cala Gració bay. It is just around the corner from the hotel and is a bay with crystal clear water and a small beach cafe.
