Young, buzzing hotel & student living space with fun design in Delft
Student Hotel / Delft / The Netherlands
Unfortunately many of the great design hotels out there will set you back a good amount of money when staying over. That is why I always have an extra eye out for hotels that offer a lot of design for the buck and I am always really happy when I find such places. Like this one, the Student Hotel in Delft, The Netherlands.
This hotel is part of a chain that is spreading across Europe with 13 properties at the moment. They have focused their presence on where there are plenty of students but a shortage of affordable living options. What they offer is something they describe to be a hybrid space offering co-working spaces and short- and long term stays for students, business travelers and holiday makers. It is, If you ask me, a really cleaver idea created by Scottish entrepreneur Charlie MacGregor in 2006
The Student Hotel in Delft is located right by the station. What strikes you when you enter through the doors is that this is a hotel that is no stranger to color. There is a continuous use of very powerful primary colors, like the yellow staircase which is the centre piece of the lobby area. The colorful theme continues in the rooms but the tones are more muted to create a more relaxing mood.

Just follow the Pac Man figures.
Geometric patterns and bold colors make for a vibrant lobby area.
A lot of space to hang around and meet old and new friends.
Every hotel worth its name should have a ping pong table and some neon art work hanging from the ceiling.
Retro vibes in one of the open co-working/reading spaces.
The interior style is so playful and colorful.
The lobby area is so geometric and colorful. I love all these straight angels and colors.
A reminder that this isn’t only a hotel. People also live here.
The design in the room still has a lot of color but more muted tones than what you’ll find in the lobby area.
I love this bed throw. I wish I could bring it back home with me.
“Love is the key”… Gotta love a good word joke. And some Tony’s Chocolonely chocolates.
Some yin and yang for you.
One of the old city gates, the Oostpoort, is one of the prettiest places in this cute little Dutch town.
If you venture out to explore Delft make sure to stop by KEK for a coffee and something sweet.

This place is perfect if you…
…if you want to stay in a cool design hotel that is on the lower end of the cost spectra. A hotel that has developed a close connection to the local community and where is a young vibe created by all the students living on site.
My favorite thing about this place…
…is that this is the first hotel I have ever stayed at where there was an Amphiro meter fitted in the shower so I could see in real time how much water I was using when I showered. An example.I hope more hotels would follow
What not to miss when staying here…
…is the great little cafe called KEK located in the centre of Delft, a 10 min walk from the hotel which is a fab place to pop in for a good cappuccino and a classic Dutch apple cake.
