Pulitzer Hotel / Amsterdam / Netherlands

Fittingly Amsterdam has an array of really great hotels to fit all kind of budgets. Hotels that are doing all they can to carve out a niche to stand out among all the competitors.

One hotel that manages to do just that is this one, The Pulitzer. It is located in an area that is the favorite among many of us visiting, the 9 Straatjes.

The Pulitzer is made up of 25 different canal houses that has been connected to create one maze-like hotel, built around an airy inner courtyard.

The style of the hotel is colorful and ”in your face”: It is a design that leaves a mark, that isn’t easily ignored. Already when you enter you are meet by statement pieces like the Delft blue tiled reception desks and a golden, round sofa.

Our room was at the top floor of one of the houses called The Mustard Jar. In our room there was a short description of the history of our building. Such a great detail. If the design of the common areas is loud (in a good way) the room was homey and welcoming. A perfect place to spend an Amsterdam weekend.

The design is powerful. And colorful. And full of eclectic choices.

Colorful and with mismatching furniture.

Love rooms with slanted ceilings. So cozy!

This retro telephone!

High ceilings and great views of the Prinsengracht canal.

The design in our room was an interesting combo of old and new. A good way to create a cosy, homey feeling which is fairly rare in hotel rooms.

I am a huge fan of good bathroom products. Like these ones from world renowned perfume maker, Le Labo.

M seen through the nautical style window from the bathroom to the room.

Big fan of this muted color scheme.

A little history lesson about the building that our room was situated in.

These days breakfast is served in your room. And trust me, it tasted just as good as it looks.

Wonderful Bussia, right around the corner from the hotel. A great pitstop to load up on Italian goodies.

When we stayed at the Pulitzer a rare snow storm hit Amsterdam. It made the city look more beautiful than ever.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…are looking for a great city hotel to use as a starting point for your Amsterdam weekend. It is located right in the popular 9 Streets area so make sure to bring a thick wallet.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is that the hotel feels like a maze. They have managed to create a cohesive hotel out of 25 different houses dating back to the Golden Age. A great way to combine past and present.

What not to miss when staying here…

…there is so much to do and experience in Amsterdam. One important activity is to eat. And around the corner from the Pulitzer you’ll find a small Italian cafe/deli called Bussia. Please, do not miss their focaccia bread. My God!
