Colorful, fun and quirky design hotel in Paris

Les Deux Gares / Paris / France

Deciding what hotel to stay at when going to Paris is almost impossible. There are just so many great hotels out there and it seems like they continue to multiply by the minute. This time around we were looking for a hotel located fairly close to Gare du Nord (where our train from Netherlands would arrive), with fun, unique design and at a reasonable prize. And we struck gold.

Hotel Les Deux Gares, located in Little India, is the creation of English interior designer Luke Edward Hall and is part of small local chain Tourists Group (they have a total of three hotels, the two others are also here in Paris, Panache and Bienvenue). All in all there are 40 rooms at this boutique hotel, sitting on a side street, wedged between two of Paris’ main train stations, Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est.

So, back to Hall’s design. It is hard to believe that this is his first foray into hotels because the design is everything, best described as an exuberant take on Art Deco. He manages to combine some kind of English classy chic with French decadence The result is a magical combo of bright colors and Art Deco furniture, and this design hits you in the face as soon as you step through the front doors. We are talking vintage leopard print sofa, brass drink cart, vintage printed wall paper and candy striped curtains. It kind of feels like stepping into a Wes Andersen film set.

The bold, colorful aesthetic is not only for the common areas but also in the  hotel rooms. Ours was an explosion of different colors, dove blue walls, purple curtains, electric green covings, patterned fitted carpet, striped head board and the ceiling painted in a soft yellow. And then there was the bathroom with rich green tiles, blue mirror and a pink basin. All I can say is that I love, love, love it!

Welcome to Hotel Les Deux Gares in Paris’ Little India.

I am obsessed with the color scheme at Les Deux Gares. Just look at this rich green color in the reception area. And combined with the black and white marble herringbone floor it is just on point.

Our cosy room with patterned fitted carpet, striped head board and painted ceiling. The design really stand out in all of its quirkiness and joyfulness.

And when talking about joyful colors, just check out these green tiles and the blue mirror and pink basin. I give this design 10 points for daring to flood the bathroom in strong colors.

That magical Parisian light flooding our room.

Getting ready for bed.

Love how they have designed the staircase with the pattered carpet and the quirky lamps.

M hanging out in the lobby in the leopard printed sofa reading up on what not to miss in Paris.

Colors, fringe, heavy curtains and fun wallpaper. I love everything about this.

This sofa is everything!

M eager to hit the streets of Paris.

The hotel is located between the North and the East Station, hence the name Les Deal Gares which means the two stations.

This is my favorite coffee place in Paris. Boot Café is located in the lovely Les Marais area.

Ok, maybe it is strange to eat Italian when in Paris but there is such a great place called Ober Mama in Oberkampf that is just too good to miss. Just look at these pizzas!

I don’t care that it is touristy, the Eiffel Tower gets me every time. It is such a stunning piece of work. Especially at night when lit up.

This place is perfect if you…

…are coming to Paris and you want to stay at a really cool design hotel at a fairly low price (especially compared to most other design hotels in this city). And if you want to stay at a hotel that is conveniently placed where the international trains and the trains from Charles de Gaulle Airport arrive as well as having the eclectic Canal Saint Martin area around the corner, this is your place.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the truly unique, bold and colorful design. I love how it stands out with painted ceilings, printed wall paper and quirky interior. It really leaves a lasting impression and I hope this boldness is a trend we will see more of in the hotel industry in the future.

What not to miss when staying here is…

…ok, this is almost impossible. Come on, this is Paris! Ok, I know it is touristy but it is actually really worth it to go to the top of the Eiffel Tower in the evening. We booked tickets for 21:30 and it was really great. Very few people and amazing to see Paris in the darkness from above.
