Design lovers dream hotel in Eindhoven by legend Piet Hein Eek

Piet Hein Eek Hotel / Eindhoven / Netherlands

There is an old saying that goes “Good things come to those who wait”. And lord knows I have been waiting for this hotel to open. I first heard about this project a couple of years ago when visiting Piet Hein Eek’s amazing factory/store/art exhibit/restaurant. It made so much sense that he would add a hotel to this mix and my expectations went through the roof since I love his work.

The hotel is located in the outskirts of Eindhoven where Philips used to have their factory. Most of the buildings here have been preserved and today this is a design hotspot with a lot of quirky shops, restaurants and cafés.

So who is Piet Hein Eek? He is a Dutch design legend who has been active since the 1990’s. He has always worked with resources found in nature and inexpensive materials and turns them into fun, quirky furniture. He was educated here in Eindhoven and moved his business to this site in 2010

The Piet Hein Eek Hotel is on the top floors of the factory. Or actually the hotel rooms are on one floor. When you enter you’ll take the elevator up to the reception/restaurant and the rooms are on floor above. On the top floor that is a roof terrace perfect for a drink in the sun.

In total there are 13 rooms and they are all individually designed. I love that when you book you choose a specific room so you can really chose one that fits your mood. We went for room 12 since it was one of the few corner rooms that is flooded by light through the massive, industrial windows. The color scheme is so right up my alley with soft coral, muted grey and blues. Of course the rooms is filled with Piet Hein Eek signature furniture and interior details. And if you like it, most of the interior is for sale in the store on the ground floor. Like it and buy it.

The hotel sign sets the tone already from the start with PHE signature smiley face that pops up every here and there in the hotel

A lot of old materials that have been repurposed and used in the hotel. Like this old metal pipe that is turned into a sign.

There is a back entrance into the store from the hotel. Perfect if you want to buy something that you like in the hotel. Most is for sale down in the store on the ground floor.

Love this corridor with walls clad in repurposed wood with art work and the most amazing carpet. Here you can see M heading to our room.

These windows… Love, love, love these old factory windows.

Classic PHE furniture with salvaged wood and metal lamp.

More interior shots from our room with vintage vase and PHE furniture.

M checking out where all the hotspots of Eindhoven are before we head out.

I love this bespoke bathroom zink, the colors and the large wooden lamps in our bathroom. Such a great mix!

This was one of my favorite corners of the hotel with the sleek sofa, colorful carpet and factory window. Perfection!

The same theme continues through the restaurant on the first floor where most of the interior is made of repurposed materials.

A shot from the PHE shop. So many things asking to accompany you home.

An evening shot of the factory/shop/hotel.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…are a fan of unique design. Design with a strong sustainability aspect that feels totally timeless. And if you like me really like destination hotels where you have everything you need within the four walls of the hotel, this is your place.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the building. I love these old factory buildings with the massive windows and brick walls. Especially when it has been cared for like this one has. A lot of love (and money and effort) has gone into xxx this building.

What not to miss when staying here is…

…to have a long proper look in the Piet Hein Eek store. It is filled with his signature furniture but also antique pieces as well as some clothes, bags, home furnishing accessories and little knick knacks. Also make sure to explore the rest of the old Philips site. Amazing buildings with an industrial heritage.
