Pink manor house in Blekinge, Sweden with surprising, eclectic design

Hoby Kulle Herrgård / Bräkne-Hoby / Blekinge / Sweden

Blekinge is a region in the southeast corner of Sweden and compared to its neighbors, Skåne and Småland, it is a region that often flies a little under the radar. Which is strange since it has so much to offer, cute little towns, a beautiful coastline with several islands, deep forests and this place, Hoby Kulle Herrgård.

The couple running this hotel is Tove and Benjamin. The bought the property back in 2019 after having met just one year earlier. But the history of Hoby Kulle started back in 1846 when noble couple Isaac Otto Ruben and Carolina von Rosen finished the construction of this pink mansion. The sad story is the Caroline passed in Cholera just after the building was completed and two weeks later Isaac also passed away.

The design is not the traditional look that one might expect from an old manor house, but Tove has really used her creativity to create a look that feels both quirky and personal. A design that stands out and that feels unique. All the furniture and accessories have been sourced from flee markets and auctions to fit into the scheme. The idea is to let the creation of Hoby Kulle Herrgård take as long as it takes. No rush!

On site you’ll find a fun little flee market, a beautiful garden, a small pond with a rowing boat and a beautiful conservatory where during daytime there is a café and come evening, Benjamin cooks up a three course menu for the hotel guests and sometimes some locals pop in if there is space.

We stayed in the room called Adele, named after the first owners daughter. It is a huge room with tall ceilings, countless windows flooding the room in light. The color was a soft beige with a hint of blush and an eclectic mix of vintage furniture and art work. And what could be good to know is that it is the only room in the main building with an en-suite.

My favorite thing to do was to walk around looking at all the different spaces and rooms. It is such a photogenic hotel. I hope it translates in my photos. If not, you just have to go there to see for yourself.

Me walking up towards the Hoby Kulle Herrgård.

The hotel in all of its pink splendor.

Love the giant palm trees framing the entrance.

The staircase leading up to the top floor where our room was located.

Love this photo. The light is magical.

Outside our room was this lounge. Love the rich ochre color.

Our room. Called Adele after the first owners daughter.

Suck beautiful bed linen. Rare to see embroidered linen in a hotel. Fits so well with the design scheme of Hoby Kulle.

A proper key

Love these old wooden floors.

I am trying to hide when taking this photo to avoid showing my reflection in the mirror. Such a beautiful space where we had our breakfast in the morning.

A photo from the cute little flee market

The conservatory

How beautiful is this space with the vines hanging from the ceiling.

These cuties ran around in the garden. They look lite little cotton balls.

There are bikes to loan. Perfect for a ride down to the sea.

Ritz in Sölvesborg must not be missed. The fika here is crazy delicious. My favorite is the the almond bun in the right corner. The other ones aren’t too shabby either…

This place is perfect if you…

…love old buildings that have been given a second lease in life. If you like classic manor houses with a contemporary design edge and relaxed service, I think you will like Hoby Kulle Herrgård.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the conservatory. It is a large green house hidden in the corner of the garden where the ceiling is covered by vines and the grapes are hanging in bunches above your head when you are having a classic Swedish fika.

What not to miss when staying here is…

…to go down to the coast, just a couple of kilometers from the hotel. The Blekinge archipelago is full of islands and islets. Another thing not to miss is to drive to nearby town of Sölvesborg for a fika at Ritz. Their baked goods are out of this world. My favorite? It is the almond bun. Well worth a detour.
