Castle Leslie / Glaslough / Ireland

We had booked a stay at Braec House, located in the far northwestern end of Ireland and where planning to drive there from Dublin. We asked Niall and Catherine who run Breac House if they had any recommended places to stay along the way and this was one of them.

Castle Leslie is more than only one castle. It is an entire estate. It is located in beautiful surroundings in the outskirts of the village of Glaslough, County Monaghan. This estate has been in the hands of its founding family, the Leslies, since the 1660s. There are a plethora of different rooms to choose from spread over three different buildings, the Castle, the Lodge and the Old Stable Mews.

We decide to opt for a room in the castle to get the full experience. It was all in all an almost surreal experience. It truly feels like time traveling with all the portraits of different important forefathers, a grand piano, majestic staircases and massive halls. Very regal!

When you arrive at Castle Leslie, you are greated by this lovely, ivy-clad annex…

…and then you continue driving through the forest before you arrive at the actual castle.

A very welcoming reception that sets the regal tone.

The interior is very grand, just like you’d expect from a castle like this one.

Massive carpets and plush, slightly worn furniture.

Very classic (and classy) interior in our bedroom.

The bathroom in our room was the quirkiest I’ve ever seen.

Sometimes you can always tell by a photo how well someone has slept. That is the case with this photo. We got up early to greet the sunny Summer morning.

The backyard and the park is magnificent.

Beautiful garden. One can only imagine the hours it must take to keep it looking this good.

Such a great way to start the day with a walk around the lake, through the lush forest while the sun is slowly rising.

This place is perfect if you…

…love classic, grand environments with a strong connection to yesteryear. Or if you would like to pretend you are living in a real life version of Downton Abbey.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the nature surrounding the castle. It is all very Irish with rolling green hills, lush forests and a beautiful lake.

What not to miss when staying here…

…is to get up early and walk around the estate. When we stayed here the lake was covered in a heavy morning mist which made the place look even more inviting.
