Modern Stockholm design hotel with an industrial past

Blique by Nobis / Stockholm / Sweden

There is a chain in Scandinavia (6 hotels in Sweden and 1 in Denmark) called Nobis and their hotels are something out of the ordinary. On their list you’ll find places like Miss Clara, Stallmästaregården and Hotel J.

The one we just stayed at is called Blique by Nobis and is located in the up and coming area of Hagastaden in Stockholm, Sweden. The hotel is situated in an old Philips warehouse that has been transformed into a 249 room hotel by one of the leading Scandinavian architecture- and design firms, Wingårdhs. I love how they have captured the industrial heritage of the building but still managed to breath some life into it. Many times hotels that go for the industrial look can end up feeling both stale and hollow. But not this one. It feels warm, welcoming and stylish. A difficult balance to create.

The room we had was actually as small studio with a fully equipped kitchen. We stayed here during the Corona pandemic so unfortunately the roof top was closed but I can only imagine what a great place that must be in Summer offering amazing views of the roof tops of Vasastaden. So I guess we have to come back again, I don’t mind. Not at all.

You enter the hotel through this portal from the street.

Clean design with an industrial touch.

Our room was actually a small studio apartment with a fully equipped kitchenette.

One of my favorite design features was the terrazzo covered bathroom.

The spacious, industrial looking bar/lobby area.

Hard and soft. Brutal and gentle.

M looking for a quiet place in the lobby to sit and read. Leather, wood, metal and exposed concrete are the main design features.

And he found it.

The breakfast is served downstairs.

I’ve said it before and will say it again. It is so important to be able to get a proper coffee when staying at hotels. That is something that sets my favorites apart from the rest.

Gotta love a hotel that has home made Dulce de leche for breakfast.

On the top floor you’ll find Arc, a restaurant and bar with a Korean influenced menu and minimalist design.

From the roof top terrace you’ll have a view of one of the coolest buildings in Stockholm

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…want to go on a city break in Stockholm and you want to stay central but in a calmer, more residential area. In these parts you’ll find many restaurants, bars and cafés frequented by locals so a great way to get a taste of some local Stockholm life.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the open lobby area that many locals seemed to be using as a temporary work place. I love the vibe that creates. Oh, I also must mention the service. Such great people working here that really wanted us to enjoy our stay.

What not to miss when staying here…

…Stockholm is such a walkable city. So put on some comfy shoes and explore the Swedish capital where water is ever present.
