Quirky, maximalist boutique hotel in an undisclosed location in Visby, Gotland

Revolver Hotel / Visby / Gotland / Sweden

It is crazy that it is even possible. To create a secret hotel. A hotel where the location is not disclosed. Where you have to request to stay and it is not until you have gotten an ok that you’ll learn where the hotel is located. It doesn’t even show up when you google it. But let me start at the beginning.

Gotland is this magical island, located in the middle of the Baltic Sea where the light is incredible, the nature is raw and dramatic and the Summers feel endless. The ”capital” of Gotland is Visby, an old Hanseatic town with a massive city wall, old stone houses and narrow cobbled streets. On one of these streets there is a house that used to be the workshop of the last gun smith of the island. But not anymore. This is now the Revolver Hotel.

This 7-key hotel is built around a secluded courtyard and the style is full on maximalism. It is eclectic, eccentric and truly unique. Ingela, who is the proprietor, has a background working with creating set designs and is something of a legend in the world of TV. She has used this skill and the collection of interior items that she has collected throughout the years to create her quirky hotel.

Our room was the actual old work shop and had a kind of Wild West theme, paying an homage to the heritage. Small, cozy and perfect for a city weekend on this fantastic island. And remember, if you stay here, you must not share with anyone where this hotel is located.

The old Hanseatic town of Visby on Swedish island, Gotland is surrounded by an impressive medieval city wall.

Welcome to Revolver Hotel. It is in a non-disclosed location somewhere among the winding alleys of Visby. You will only find out where, once you have booked.

The 7 very different rooms are located in individual houses, around a cozy courtyard.

Our room was situated in the yellow house, at the far end of the courtyard.

Our room used to be the actual workshop of the last gunsmith on the island.

Our room was a quirky, crazy, wonderful mix of different vintage furniture and accessories. The theme? Cowboys and the Wild West.

I love this vintage bed lamp.

The more you look at these photos, the more bonkers the interior looks.

We had this cute little kitchenette in our room.

Vintage mismatching kitchenware looks so great against the soft pink wall.

The courtyard in some soft Autumn light.

I love to visit typical Summer destinations like Gotland off-season, when you have the place to yourself and the cracks show.

Visby is so picturesque with narrow cobble stone streets and old houses placed really close to each other.

M is strolling around, exploring the town and the beautiful architecture.

Autumn in Sweden can be stunning, especially when in a town like Visby.

High skies, soft Autumn light and nature is showing its most beautiful dress.

A must when in Visby, is to have crepes here.

I know it takes a certain skill to take photos of food (which I don’t possess) but you can’t blame me for trying.

The scenery on the island is very dramatic. M and I went for a run along the coast just north of Visby.

Another must when on the island is the Blue Lagoon, an old lime stone quarry that is now a popular spot for swimming. In Summer it is packed but when we came in Autumn we had the place all to ourselves. If we went in the water? Of course!

Me going for a stroll along the water post swim.

This place is perfect if you…

…are a fan of maximalism. If you are going to Visby and want to stay at a warm, friendly B&B-style hotel where all the rooms are different and XXX

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the madness. I have never seen anything like this when it comes to design. Almost like staying in some kind of odd museum. And I must say I like that it doesn’t even show up on the map if you google it. It is a well kept secret.

What not to miss when staying here is…

…to be very careful when you decide what time to come to Gotland. This island is very popular during July so I would suggest any month but this one. We came in September and had a wonderful Autumn weekend with the Baltic Sea still being warm enough to swim in and the leaves had just started to change color. Regardless when you come, Gotland has so much to offer. One of my favorite places is the Blue Lagoon, an old lime stone quarry turned natural swimming pool.
