Buzzing East London hotel with bright interior and excellent location

One Hundred Shoreditch / London / England / Great Britain

This used to be one of my favorite hotels, Ace Hotel London, and I think it was the hotel I have stayed at the most amount of times. So when they announced they were closing down for good during the pandemic it was very mixed emotions on my end. One part was very disappointed but the other very curious to see what would happen here instead, hoping that it would be another really great hotel that would fill the big shoes left by Ace. And now I finally had the opportunity to stay at the new kid on the block, One Hundred Shoreditch Hotel.

So what is new? This hotel is now managed by Lore Group. They owned the building during the Ace era but now they are running the hotel (they also run Pulitzer in Amsterdam). One Hundred Shoreditch is much more slick compared to Ace and in a way this makes total sense. When Ace opened in 2013 this area was still a little rough around the edges but since the gentrification has continued in Shoreditch and the edges have been polished smooth. So to see this mirrored in the hotel seems very logical.

So why stay here? One of the key elements when looking for a hotel, especially an urban hotel, is location. It should be central but not too central. It should be busy but not noisy. It should be… ok, you get my drift. And this 258-key hotel has a perfect location in the middle of Shoreditch in buzzing East London.

On site you’ll find six restaurants and bars including one located on the roof (which was closed due to a private event during my stay). The rooms are designed to function as a retreat from the vibrancy and energy when you need to relax and recharge before heading back out again. Therefore the design scheme is all about peacefulness with white walls, soft lighting, cream colored carpets, colorful artwork by Jack Strauss and some fresh eucalyptus to give the room an authentic scent.

So, if Ace was the noisy, hip, rebellious teenager, One Hundred Shoreditch feels more like the, still hip, but more mature and worldly older sibling.

Welcome to One Hundred Shoreditch! Right in the heart of vibrant Shoreditch, East London.

The lobby is drowning in daylight trough the massive windows, accompanied by modern wooden art work.

The massive lobby and work space where the look has a kind of 70s vibe with a soft, almost yellow tone and plenty of space to hang out.

Heading to our room. Compared to when this was an Ace the corridors are much brighter with cream colored carpets and splashes of colorful artwork.

Our room was bright and airy, with the wall lined by a white sofa and the floors covered in a cream colored carpet.

Always a good idea to have textile art work on the walls of a hotel room to create a soft and homely look.

The industrial elements from when this was an Ace Hotel are still there.

The bathrooms are more or less intact since this was an Ace. One thing that is different are the bathroom products from New York perfume brand D.S. Durga.

The lobby is all warm and soft. Almost gives a 70s vibe with the cognac colored leather chairs and geometrical tables.

This was taken early in the morning. During the day this communal table is full of locals coming here to work and use this as an office.

One of the many bars of the hotel where industrial meets the 70s.

I am a huge fan of the look in the lobby area with chunky, mismatching furniture and a lot of plants.

If you are looking for a fun place for dinner, Glorias is around the corner and serves some great Italian grub…

…and they also do really great drinks.

And if you are a breakfast fanatic, like me, a visit to Granger & CO. is always mandatory when in London. This Aussie chain knows how do to breakfast and brunch.

If you want to do some shopping, one of my favorite shops in London is around the corner from the hotel. This is Labour & Wait and they have everything you might need for your home.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…like to stay in a hotel with a vibrant scene, where hotel guests and locals mix. Where there are busy bars and restaurants in-house and where you can walk (crawl) to great bars and restaurants in the surrounding neighborhood. If this is your thing, this could be a hotel for you.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the buzz. The vibe. I don’t really know what word to use these days that doesn’t sound like I am trying to be in the know. Anyhow, I hope you know what I mean. This hotel has so much energy from early in the morning well into the night.

What not to miss when staying here is…

…whatever tickles your fancy. This is London so just put on some good shoes and explore. Two local places worth mentioning are Italian restaurant Gloria on Great Eastern Street and favorite homeware shop, Labour & Wait on Redchurch Street, right around the corner.
