Autor Rooms / Warsaw / Poland

It seems really small hotels are becoming more and more common. Hotels that is a perfect alternative for the traveller who is looking for something that feels more homey and calm. Autor Rooms is such a place.

Autor Rooms Hotel is housed in a combined residential/office building in one of the most appealing parts of the Polish capital. The hotel with its 4 rooms only takes up half of the third floor. Basically, this is an old apartment that has been repurposed into a micro design hotel and I must admit I ate it all up with a spoon. I think this is so brilliantly done. Its perfect for someone like me that always like to pretend that I’m a local when traveling but I love staying at hotels too much to ever give them up for the whole Air BnB thing. I’ve tried it but no.

I had the opportunity to return to Warsaw twice in a short period and I decided to stay at the same hotel both times (because I liked it so much) but decided to book two different rooms to at least experience something different. The room I stayed in during my first visit was all dark. Dark ceiling, dark fitted carpets, dark walls and dark velvet curtains. Felt like I was playing the part of some kind of spy in a Cold War movie hiding out, careful not to get caught. The second time the room I stayed in was completely different. It was all white, bright and airy with light textiles being draped around the metal rods of the four poster bed. I must admit, I find it super difficult to decide which one I liked the most.

Autor Rooms has made a commitment to showcase local design talents so most of the items you see are created here in Warsaw. That makes this hotel even more unique.

In every room you’ll find fresh flowers. And a lot of books.

Love the asymmetrical draping of the fabric over and around the bed.

Love when there is something unexpected in the design, like a silver stool in the bathroom.

RG inside info

This place is perfect if you…

…want to go on a city break and feel like a local. It is like you are living in your own apartment although with all the perks of staying at a hotel.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is that Autor Rooms are taking an active stand for human rights and more specifically LGBTQ+ rights which is more important than ever considering the development in Poland at the moment. Gotta love a hotel that dares to make a bold statement.

What not to miss when staying here…

…is the architecture. I am fascinated by communist era architecture and the centre piece of this era in Warsaw is the Palace of Culture & Science. A giant building in the centre of town, that is so impressive.
