Eco-friendly hotel in Amsterdam’s lush Westerpark
Conscious Hotel / Amsterdam / Netherlands
Yes, I have stayed at many, many hotels in the Amsterdam. When lockdown due to Covid hit we were living in the Netherlands and when not being able to leave the country we ended up spending many weekend in this city. And it wasn’t like that was some kind of punishment since it has been a long time favorite. This also gave me an opportunity to stay at many great places which I probably would have never found otherwise. This hotel is one of those. It is called Conscious Hotel and is located in the green Westerpark in the western part of town.
The first thing that strikes you with this hotel is the magnificent brick building that it is sitting almost like a divide across the park, on one side you have Westergas which is a cultural area with a fun market and on the other side it is just endless (well, almost) park where people come to hang out, work out or just chill out. But I think the best thing with this hotel is the eco-friendly profile. So what does this mean? For example the hotel is run on 100% electricity, so no use of gas. They reuse and recycle like there is no tomorrow and everything that is served is organic.
There is a total of 89 rooms and the look is paired down with very few frills. Which makes full sense considering the outside is so full of impressions. Our room was on the top floor so we got the full attic experience with exposed wood beams and skylight windows.
In the hotel there is an excellent café that serves really great coffee and everything you might need for your picnic in the park. Even though it is organic doesn’t mean that it is boring. There are some really great treats. And if that is not enough, world renowned chocolate brand Tony’s Chocolonely has their flagship store just 50 meters from the hotel. This is dangerous!

This place is perfect if you…
…want to stay in a calmer part of town, surrounded by green where you really get to connect with local life. You will see Amsterdammers exercising, going for walks, having picnics and just enjoying life. Something they excel at.
My favorite thing about this place…
…is that they have a eco-friendly profile. I understand it can’t be easy running a hotel with a high sustainability ambition so I salute all that are really pushing themselves to make it happen. And another thing I love, is that it is so close to Tony’s Chocolonely. Not bad at all. Maybe only for the figure…
What not to miss when staying here is…
…to have a picnic in the park (if the weather permits). Many times when going to a city you end up running around town all day. Why not just take a break and lay in the grass with something to eat, drink and read instead?
