Cute B&B with personal service in stunning Salzkammergut

Haus Anna Plöchl / Bad Aussee / Austria

There is an area in Austria called Salzkammergut. It is a beautiful (I don’t think there is a word strong enough to describe the beauty of this place) area with crystal clear (and cold) lakes among tall, dramatic mountains. I have been blessed with the opportunity to travel and experience many different parts of the world and this is one of my favorite places.

Here, in the middle of the Salzkammergut area you’ll find Haus Anna Plöchl, located in the cute little village of Bad Aussee, strategically placed between two of the most scenic lakes, Hallstätter See and Altaussee.

Haus Anna Plöchl is a design B&B owned and run by Bettina Grieshofer. She had a dream to have her own place in Bad Aussee and decided to make it come true when she came across this 19th century villa for sale. After a lot of hard work with turning the run down villa into a unique design B&B, Bettina opened the doors to the B&B in 2019.

There are 8 rooms in total and they are all individually designed by Bettina herself, each with its own back story. We stayed in the ”Anna Zimmer”, named after the main character herself. Bettina knows everything and everyone in town so she will be able to tell you about all the musts when visiting. And whatever she doesn’t know, her dad, who helps out during breakfast will be able to assist with. You just have to brush up on your German first…

Welcome to Haus Anna Plöchl, in the outskirts of the cute town of Bad Aussee.

The design in our room felt very local, with classic material like wool and wood. A very timeless look and feel.

This is Austria after all. Home made schnapps is mandatory.

We had to pull over with the car when we drove along the amazing Hallstätter See and go for a dip in our underwear. Cool and refreshing.

This place is perfect if you…

…want to stay at a small, friendly place when visiting the area. There are a lot of fairly big, more generic places to stay at but Haus Anna Plöchl really stands out, both when it comes to design and service.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is that you get close to local life. Besides this B&B Bettina also runs a ”Dirndl” shop in town so she knows, well everything about this area and the people here. It makes the stay feel authentic, like getting a good dose of Austrian Alpine life.

What not to miss when staying here…

…are the lakes! Go for a refreshing swim in either Altaussee or Hallstätter See. Or take a quick, refresher in the stream just next to the B&B. It was a perfect place to cool off after an afternoon run in the Summer sun.
