There is something so magical about staying on the beach. To have the sea right in front of you. To fall asleep to the sound of the waves and wake up to the sound of curious seagulls. If this is something you like, I think this is place for you.
This is Strandhotel Zoomers, located right on the beach in Castricum can Zee in the Netherlands. The hotel opened in 2019 but the owners were already running a beach restaurant with the same name since 2007. What they wanted to create here was a place or like they describe it themselves, an oasis for relaxation. A hotel that is all about slow living with a focus on circularity. The hotel was designed by Breddels Architecten together with architect Petra Kramer. The property is heated by a pellet stove and energy generated via 280 solar panels.
There are just 12 rooms at Zoomers. There is no reception. You get your access code to the room via email so check in and check out is a breeze. A sea breeze. :-) The style is full on beach extravaganza with rattan furniture, pastel colors and the room was full of quirky lamps and art work. All the furniture and accessories are from Dutch brand, HKliving and their stuff fits so well in this kind of setting. The way the rooms are styled they almost feel more like a private home than a hotel and that leads to a very homey feeling. If I had a house on the beach, this is totally how I would furnish and stye it.

There was a fully equipped kitchenette in our room so you can cook your own dinner if you want to.

It is all about the beach at this place.
One would almost think this is the Caribbean or some kind of exotic destination, but this is the Netherlands, a short drive from Amsterdam.

…want to live on the beach. It is rare, especially in this neck of the woods to find a hotel this close to the water.
My favorite thing about this place…
…was when all the people who had come to the beach for the day started to return home and the calm set in. To go down to the beach while the sun was slowly setting was such a moment. It felt like we had the beach all to ourselves. And it was equally wonderful to start the morning with a walk along the beach followed by a swim before the daytrippers started to arrive for another day at the beach.
What not to miss when staying here…
…is to relax! This is a place you come to to relax, enjoy the beach and just chill. Luckily that is a ”sport” we excel at.
