Sunny and bright hotel in Silver Lake, LA where Summer feels endless

Silver Lake Pool & Inn / Los Angeles / California / USA

When choosing what hotel to stay at when in LA, it is all about location. You want to do what you can to avoid being stuck behind the wheel driving around like a mad person. That’s why it is good to do some proper research first to make sure your hotel is in the right location for you. A very right location for us is always Silver Lake.

Silver Lake is a fun hipster area with lots of bars, cafés, restaurants and shops. And right in the middle of this area is where you’ll find Silver Lake Pool & Inn, one of the few boutique hotels in the area.

The hotel is part of the Polisociety chain with 10 hotels where 7 of them are in the LA area. This done up 80s motel oozes of California chic. The interior was created by Venice based design firm Electric Bowery and the best way to describe it is a mix of Palm Springs and coastal SoCal where Summer feels eternal. The whole design feels very sunny and bright.

Our room, which was drenched in California sun was huge with vintage leather furniture, wood, cork floors, soft colors and stone accents. The feature that ties the design together is the terracotta colored tiles.  And one thing I especially love is the frequent use of real plants, both on the outside and in the rooms.

And then there is the pool, situated on an elevated terrace next to the hotel where you have an excellent view of the city. And yes, there is a pool bar. And yes, that makes life complete.

Silver Lake Pool & Inn is located on Santa Monica Boulevard, right on Sunset Junction.

Welcome to Silver Lake Pool & Inn

I love the combo of terracotta tiles, white rendered walls and a lot of green plants.

The terracotta tiles is a theme in the design. Here it is beautifully combined with dark wood and concrete.

The floor in the elevator.

Our room was really large but still very snug. Carpet and real plants is a great way to increase the snugness level.

Love these vintage leather chairs in our room.

It is interesting how although there are several different materials used, like terrazzo, wood, cork and rattan, it still doesn’t look busy. Quite the opposite.

You know you are staying at a fancy hotel when the toiletries are from Diptyque.

I am such a fan of these floor tiles. It gives the bathroom a vintage look. And come to think of it, I don’t think I have ever seen them anywhere outside of the US.

It is funny, I am not usually the biggest fan of terracotta but at this hotel it looks so good. And especially as a backdrop for all the different printed materials from the hotel.

A pool with a city view. This scene feels so LA.

The umbrellas are opened, the lounge chairs have been lined up and ready or us.

One of the best things with jet lag is that you wake up early. So great to go outside and watch the city waking up…

…and in LA there is always a café open. This one was right around the corner from the hotel.

The Griffith Observatory with Downtown LA in the background.

Our lovely friends, J & T guiding us through the winding paths of Griffith Park, keeping the coyotes away.

Sun has set and we are ready to head back to our room.

Our bed was calling us to come lay down and slip into deep jet lag sleep.

This place is perfect if you…

…are looking to stay in one of the nicest, friendliest and hippest areas in LA, Silver Lake. If you love the feeling of eternal Summer and you feel like you are a couple of years too old to stay at Ace Hotels but you still want that kind of vibe, then this is totally your place.

My favorite thing about this place…

…the relaxed, effortless, very Californian vibe that is ever present. It comes through in the design, the people working here and the music played.

What not to miss when staying here is…

…to go for a hike. This is almost a must when in LA. It is amazing how many great hiking trails you find in and around the city. Our friends J & T took us to Griffith Park, which is just up the road from the hotel, where you’ll have a wonderful view of LA. We even came across a wild coyote which felt like a surreal experience considering we were in the middle of LA.
