Relaxed hotel with beachy vibe and a lot of joie de vivre in Juan-les-Pins on French Riviera

Hôtel le Sud / Juan-les-Pins / Côte d’Azur / France

One of the things few others can do as well as the French is to create design that feels so simple but still so stylish. They have this ability to use items that would look totally out of place in other places. It is somehow elegant and down to earth (sometimes even borderline trashy, in a good way). One hotel that embodies this, is Hôtel le Sud.

This 29-key hotel is located in the middle of Juan-les-Pins. A short walk from the train station (so easy access if you fly in to Nice, you can just hop on the train and be here in less than 30 minutes) and a little longer walk (but still fairly short) from the beach.

The design is the work of local interior designer, Stéphanie Lizée. The white plaster walls have been paired with broken marble floors, burnt orange striped sofas, wicker furniture and quirky vintage lamps and pottery. This mix might sound a little odd but the result looks really good. Another thing that looks good and I really like is the graphic profile and the bespoke paintings that pop up here and there. Inspiration has been drawn from Jean Cocteau, Fernand Léger and Picasso. Artists who all settled in this region to work on their art

The ”pièce de résistance” (to use some local lingo) is the pool area in the back. It is an urban oasis, lined by greenery to create this illusion that you are in some remote part of the riviera while the hustle and bustle of Juan-les-Pins is right on the other side of the wall.

Welcome to Hotel le Sud!

The lobby is all white with the odd splash of color, like this burnt orange striped sofa.

Love this old broken marble floor.

The graphic profile of all the signs and the wall art looks so good. Simple yet stylish.

Heading up to our room. On each floor there is artwork painted on the tiles.

Our room. Just like the graphic profile, the interior design has the same kind of vibe, simple yet stylish.

Big fan of these vintage lamps.

Breakfast at Hotel le Sud is a very French affair (obviously!)

At the back of the hotel is where you’ll find the pool, surround by greenery,.

Waiting for the rosé truck to open….

The beach in Juan-les-Pins. It was too cold for the French to go in but not for me. :-)

Tried to take pictures of the yummy food when we ate at Le P’tit Cageot in Antibes, but the only thing that came out well in my photos were the desserts.

This place is perfect if you…

…are looking for a hotel on the French Rivera that is down to earth and has more of an urban vibe where you can sip rosé by the pool. If you prefer simple and personal before luxurious and anonymous, I think you will really like Hotel Le Sud.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is the pool area. It is so impressive to see how they have managed to create this lush little oasis, in the middle of downtown Juan-les-Pins.

What not to miss when staying here…

…is to go to neighboring town of Antibes which I think is more quaint than Juan-les-Pins. One restaurant I can highly recommend is Le P’tit Cageot, located on a side street in the old town.
