Contemporary design b&b mixing Austrian and Scandi design elements

Lermooser / Lermoos / Tyrol / Austria

I am confident I must have been a mountain goat in a previous life. I just feel so at home when I am surrounded by mountains. Or when I am standing at the top of one for that matter. Luckily my husband is the same so as often as we can, we try to spend time in the mountains. It is not only the magnificent nature that pulls us but the fresh air, the great food, the hospitality, basically the way of life. I always try to find places a little off the beaten path, especially when in the Alps which draws in the crowds by the millions. And the small village of Lermoos, right on the German border is such a place. And it is in this village where you’ll find this hotel, the Lermooser.

The village is located in the northern part of the Tyrol, right on the German border. The Lermooser is actually the old village train station that has been converted into a design b&b. The entrepreneurs behind this transformation are Cleo and Johann who hail from the German city of Munich. The came across this listed building and saw the potential and decided to go for it. In 2023 the refurbishing was completed and the Lermooser opened its doors.

The b&b consists of 8 rooms and the design aesthetic feels like a mix of traditional Austrian mixed with Scandi elements. There is a serenity to the design with blond wood, clean surfaces and some hints of color here and there to liven things up. The cohesion from the kiosk to the lounge to the kitchen and our room was impressive. These areas look different but there is not question they belong together.

Although the old train station is nowadays a b&b, it doesn’t mean that the trains aren’t still running. On the contrary! There are frequent departures both in the direction towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Munich, which means that it is super easy to get here by public transport. Just step off the train and you are 20 steps away from your destination, an Alpine design b&b with a twist.

Welcome to the Lermooser! And old train station turned design b&b.

The hotel is located on a hill, just above the village of Lermoos.

This place is perfect if you…

…love the Alps and are looking to stay in a non-touristy village in a boutique b&b with discrete yet contemporary design. If you don’t mind a hint of Scandi in your Alpine design mix, you will really appreciate the Lermooser.

My favorite thing about this place…

…is that you get so much design for your buck here. So often you have to pay through the nose to stay at unique hotels with great design. My hotel heart always skip a beat when encountering hotels where the stay is affordable and therefore possible for many different people to enjoy, not only the ones with a thick wallet. The design at the Lermooser is beautiful where every single detail seems to have been carefully mulled over. And the final result shows for it.

What not to miss when staying here…

…is to enjoy the outdoors, regardless of when you come here. We rented bikes and cycled to world-renowned Alpine resort Garmisch-Partenkirchen. If you do, don’t miss to stop at the Häselgehr Waterfall on the way for a cool dip if you need to refresh.
