Modern destination hotel in northeast Italy with high gastro ambitions
Le Fucine / Buttrio / Friuli-Venezia Giulia / Italy
There are some establishments that throw around the phrase ”destination hotel” a bit too casually in my opinion. I believe many truly want to be one. You know the kind of hotel which is the whole purpose of a trip, the actual destination. But there is more to being a destination hotel than just putting that label on your place. If you truly have the ambition to be one there has to be enough reasons for us guests to stay put during our stay. To have all you might desire under one roof and not seeing any need to leave the hotel. This one is such a destination hotel. May I present Le Fucine.
When arriving at Le Fucine it is easy to think you made a wrong turn somewhere. It is located in what could be described as a business park where the closest neighbor is some kind of production site. But as soon as you have parked your car and entered the hotel it is like the outside doesn’t exist anymore. The space is warm, welcoming and built in such a way that the hotel is making me focusing all my intention inwards. Some very cleaver architectural work there.
The interior is gentle and soft where the main feature is different kind of wood. It kind of gives the place an Alpine chalet look. This clean, discreet look is disrupted by original artwork and some great lamps, ranging from grand Murano chandeliers to 70s looking pieces from Artemide. My main take away is the feeling of space especially when in our room, which had floor-to-ceiling windows filling the room with light.
If you would want to venture out, the area around Buttrio is laden with vineyards (producing some really great whites) and the unusual (for being Italian) city of Trieste is just a short drive away. Or you just stay where you are and take the opportunity to just relax and recharge.
Welcome to Le Fucine!
One of the first things that catches your eye upon entering are the massive Murano glass chandeliers.
We arrived a little early and were immediately offered something to drink (one the house) while our room was prepared. That is good service!
Heading up to our room. The corridor was lined with these beautiful photos of the ocean.
I love the color scheme of the info box and the different booklets that was waiting for us in our room.
First time for me having bathroom products from ETRO in a hotel.
Between the lounge and the restaurants there is a lounge with a fireplace. The lounge is sunken into the floor, 70s style.
Dotted around the hotel you’ll find statement lamps from Artemide.
There used to be a petrol station on this site and I love how they kept some of the aesthetics of a vintage station in the architecture. This is the café that is situated in a separate building.
The food is really delicious and a lot of locals come here to heat so good to reserve a table if you are planning to eat while staying here. This local pasta dish was called Cjarsons and made my mouth sing with joy.
Night is setting over Le Fucine
Italian breakfast is a pure feast, especially for people with a sweet tooth.

This place is perfect if you…
…want to stay at a full-service hotel where your intention is to just stay put. If you want that hotel to have a great spa, a café, restaurant serving delicious local food, a gym and a spacious room with a huge, comfy bed, you have arrived!
My favorite thing about this place…
…is the everything is in-house. I love to go to these kind of places, especially if the weather is poor and you can just be inside all weekend but still have an excellent time. A great way to relax and recharge.
What not to miss when staying here…
…well… nothing really. I mean you would miss something if you didn’t maximize your time staying in. Just enjoy not stressing about having to do a lot of musts.
