The first 5 Selected by RG Unique Award winners

The 5 first Unique Award winners

Every year since I started this blog I do a kind of wrap up of my hotel year (yes, very original) looking back and highlighting some of the hotels that stood out a little extra in 10 different categories. Since I am usually very selective (hence the name of the blog) when I choose what hotels to stay at, this exercise is very difficult to me. Like choosing your favorite child.

One of the categories, the one that makes me somewhat extra excited is the one I call Selected by RG Unique Award. It is awarded to a hotel that really stands out. A hotel that makes my heart skip a beat. It can be the unique architecture, the incredible service, the quirky design or a combination of all of this and then some.

I have done this end-of-year list 5 times by now and below I have listed the winners of this category. These are hotels that I am really taken aback by and that I would love to return to again, and again, and again.

Ett Hem / Stockholm, Sweden

Ett Hem in Stockholm is an amazing place. I just want to live here forever. I would like Ett Hem to be my home.

Villa Augustus / Dordrecht, Netherlands

Villa Augustus just south of Rotterdam is such a cute place, a real destination hotel. The actual hotel building is an old water tower surrounded by the most beautiful park and garden. And on site you’ll also find restaurant, shop and a bakery. The design is quirky and well… unique. Wonderfully unique, to be honest.

Juvet / Valldal, Norway

This hotel was on my list for so long. I had read about it in glossy magazines, seen it in movies and followed them on social media. And all what I had seen through those channels was met and then some when I finally go the chance to travel to Norway and stay at Juvet. A unique design and nature experience.

ROSSO / Altusried, Germany

The ROSSO is the result of two German urbanites seeking a new life in the Bavarian countryside. And this is what they created. A rural retreat with a wabi-sabi look. Warm, cozy, soft and unique.

L’Arlatan / Arles, France

This hotel is such a color feast. The exterior is an old stone building but once you enter is like arriving in a totally different world. An explosion of colors, bold design, surprising features. Stunning and unique, it is a great combo.
